TLS's Flash-Fic Fridays are in full effect! Come and see who's flashing us this week:

Each Friday a new prompt will be posted along with the previous week's winners

What exactly is a Flash-Fic? It's pretty much a spur of the moment, tiny story, prompted by words, images or silliness. Not sure if you've ever been on twitter when this has happened, but it's pretty awesome when it does. It also happens often in threads, with a combination of people contributing.

How does it work? Each Friday one admin of TLS posts a picture prompt here to the blog. Using this image, entries are created. Entries must be 100-300 words ONLY. No more, no less. The entries are then judged and we post the winning submissions here, each Friday, to share with all of you.

You will have until next Wednesday at 9 p.m. EST to submit your entry. Please leave your submission in the comment section at the bottom of the post using this format:

Your name (use your Twitter, Facebook or FFN name)

Your link to your FFN profile if you choose to share it

Number of submission. Example: #1

Submissions will be judged on Thursdays and on Friday the winning entry will be posted here, on the TLS blog.

This feature is open to everyone, so come one, come all!

You’re everything: popular, gifted, a brilliant star on the
rise. I’m nothing: misfit, untalented, a black hole people step around.

You’re hers: high school sweethearts, football captain and
head cheerleader, prom king and queen. I’m nobody’s: table for one, single
ticket to the movies, prom night in.

You wear confidence and swagger, surety and poise like a
superhero’s cape. I carry insecurity and timidity, self-recrimination and doubt
like a cloak to hide beneath.

You’re everything and I’m nothing, but together we are fire.

Your lips against mine. Your hips against mine. Your words
against mine. In the hallway, in the locker room, in the parking lot when we
should both be somewhere, anywhere else.

“Don’t tell,” and “She can’t know,” and “Please,” and all
these words that fall from lips between kisses. I lick your mouth and breathe
your breath and wonder if I can swallow just enough of you to keep something
for myself when the fire burns it all down.

She is the most infuriating person I know.

The way she works herself up into a spin. The way her lips curl around her words and her  eyes hollow out like she’s starving. The way she chokes on her air and her tits strain over every gasping breath. The way she paces toe to heel in front of me, stomping over every last detail of our relationship like she might beat it into submission.

Why we can’t can’t can’t.

“I can’t wait,” I interrupt and her stomping falters as she stops to look at me. “I need you. Plain and simple. I won’t settle for less. I won’t wait.”

“You’ve never been this demanding,” she accuses with lethal accuracy and almost takes me down to my knees.

“You’ve never given me a reason to before.”

She stumbles back into her pacing again and I try to listen to her but I’ve become a buzzing hum of electric energy that has nowhere to turn. She’s ranting again, barely understandable and glowing with something that I can’t place. Pearly and brand new, like she just stepped out of a shell and found herself here with me, in this can’t can’t can’t situation.

“Will you shut up?” I tell her and seal my mouth over hers, a wax seal imprinted with everything I can’t say to this infuriating, beautiful girl who kept a secret from me just long enough to let me fall violently in love with her.

To crush all of her can’t can’t can’t’s into the linoleum beneath us.

Her fists hit my chest before they turn into skittering fingertips across my jaw and she breathes her white flag right into my mouth.

Seals it with her lips.

Dear Diary,

There's a time in everyone's life when there's a before and an after.
My after happened in 6th grade, when I saw Edward Cullen.

After that moment, my life was never the same.

Even at twelve, he took my breath away. I still haven't worked up the nerve to speak to him.

I know, I know. Pathetic. Hey, it's not like I've really had the chance. I've been INVISIBLE to him.

But that's okay. Invisible made it easier for me to stare. And dream about kissing his lips and feeling his body against mine.

Thankfully I have you, dear diary, to share my wishes and wants.

Until next time,

~ Bella

After school, I begrudgingly agree to help my best-friend Angela. She's heading up the Prom Committee so I'm in the cafeteria, watching the others come in.

I see him from the corner of my eye. He sets his backpack against the wall near mine, but doesn't look my way. He smiles at Tyler and takes a seat.
God he's beautiful.

After I get home, I grab my backpack, noticing that it's emerald green, not navy blue.

What the??

I unzip it and pull out a notebook and scream when I see Cullen across the top.

The next day at school, I'm praying my bag is where I left it. Please God. Please let it still be there.

"Looking for this?"

It's him. He's standing in the doorway with a smile that's making my knees weak.

Unable to respond, I start to run and I hear him call after me.

"Bella, wait! Stop!"

Knowing there's no way to avoid this, I stop and lean against the hallway walls.

And without ever saying a word to him, Edward Cullen’s lips are on mine.

“I don’t want to do this,” I tell him. And this time, I mean it.

“Do what?” he asks angrily.

“We’re not arguing, I’m begging you not to go. You’re the one that’s arguing.”

“I can’t do this.” He’s killing me and he knows it. I hate that.

“Why not?” he asks. “Because of last week? Last week was…”

I stop and look him square in those piercing blue eyes of his.

“It’s not because of last week.”

It’s because of last week. And the week before, and the one before that. But I can’t tell him that. I can’t give him the satisfaction. He needs to think I’m doing this for me. Which I am.

He takes my hand in his and pulls me back when I try to go. His voice weakens when he speaks this time. “Please. Stay. I’m nothing without you.”

I pause, feeling my shoulders drop a little, because when he talks like this, I forget what a jerk he can be. What an insensitive, flirtatious, jerk.

I quicken my pace. I have to go. For my heart’s sake.

“I told her I’m not interested,” he says as I put some distance between us finally.

However now, my footsteps are slowing.

“My interests lie with you,” I hear him say as he gains some ground on me. “And only you."

He pulls me into him. I fight it but then he kisses me hard. Full of all the things I love about him. Passion and impatience. Greed and lust. And I want to do this. I so want to do this, but…

“It’s only ever been you,” he promises with a husky voice, when our kiss breaks, momentarily.

I see it in his eyes and I smile, because yeah… I’m definitely doing this.

Word count: 298

“There you are.”

There was an edge to his mouth, a touch of savagery in the way it curved into a smile. He had her cornered in this dark section of the hospital, long closed for the weekend. The buzzing of his office party was non-existent thanks to the maze of hallways where she’d gotten herself lost in a pathetic dash to find the parking deck.

Edward stared, waiting and Bella felt as if she were desperately trying to remember the answer when there hadn’t been a question asked. He took a step forward and she took a step back, his eyes dropping to where she wobbled on her heels.

Her hair had come loose, the strands clinging wetly to her cheeks. Breathless and unblinking, she bit her lip, a metallic burn that made his nostrils flare.

“Oh sweetheart, you shouldn’t have run,” he told her, voice low and urgent, his smirk faded. “You know what that does to me.” His eyes were wild, the darkness churning with faint hints of red. Her hands fluttered uselessly at her throat.

“No!” She shook her head violently, hearing a sob, hysterical, frantic and knew it was herself. The emotion was torn from a place so deeply buried inside her that she thought if she could see it, it would a mess of sticky blood and frantic beating heart, the fear seeping out of her and pooling hotly at her feet.

“Please,” she cried. “I don’t want you to—“

“I can smell the wet between your legs,” he growled, a guttural sound caught between humanity and the animal within. “Your body begs for me, don’t deny that.” He moved closer.

“I- I don’t deny it. Just… don’t hurt me.”

“I could never hurt you,” he whispered, seconds before he fell.

The Lemonade Stand would like to thank all of the participants. We thoroughly enjoyed ALL of the entries!

See you next week!

TLS Fics of Week 4/23 - 4/29/2013

Shout out to our guest reviewer, Jessypt this week! Thanks Love :)

Not The Marrying Kind by BestScentEver
"Bella, I'll be honest with you. I'm not the marrying kind, and if you're looking for happily ever after you won't find it with me. Now if it's a good time you want—I'm your man." A/H Romance with a tinge of angst. Rated: Fiction M

Reviewed by: Jessypt

When I was asked to write the rec for this week's fic of the week, Not the Marrying Kind (NTMK), I was thrilled. Bestscentever and I have been on a long fic journey together, her as writer and me as beta, since we were randomly paired up by Project Team Beta a few years back, so it's exciting to tell you a little bit about why I love NTMK.

The story starts with Rosalie, Bella's business partner and sister, trying to convince Bella to go on a blind date with Edward (Roaslie's future brother-in-law). That date is the beginning of an up and down and twisted tale of two people in love... and lust... who desperately want to be with each other... but on their own terms.

And it's those terms, those very incompatible terms, that are really getting in the way of things.

Edward, business owner and brother to Emmett, is struggling with a lifetime's dose of motherly advice about relationships and women and a longheld belief that he is incapable of being faithful to any woman. Throughout his adult life, he's always been okay with this, skipping from woman to woman as he saw fit... until he met Bella.

Bella, on the other hand, is a true romantic. She wants the whole package. The committed relationship. The happy marriage. Basically what Rosalie and Emmett have. And she deserved it, dammit.

So, when she meets Edward, she thinks she's got it in the bag. He's smokin' hot, fun to be with, and wants her just as badly as she wants him.

Except for those pesky terms.

Edward begins to question everything he's ever believed, and Bella's miserable and wondering if she should give in. And just when Bella decides to take matters into her own hands... things fall apart, and send them both into a tailspin.

And back to revisit those terms again. This is where it really gets complicated... and probably where you're going to want to KILL Edward for being a complete and utter dick.

Throw in a home break-in, a security camera scandal, a crazy dose of UST, and a load of miscommunication and you've got two very frustrated people.

Of course, the thing they don't lack is chemistry. It's off the charts, and has been since the first minute they meet on that blind day in chapter one. Here's a little taste:

Edward stopped before he was touching her, but Bella moved closer and reached her hand out to touch him. He sucked his stomach in slightly as her hand brushed the V above his hipbones, sending a shock through him.

His skin was hot against her hand, and she heard the quick intake of his breath. Edward's body was breathtaking. He was lean with hard, sleek, defined muscles that Bella wanted to explore with her fingertips. The towel sat low on his hips and she rubbed her thumb over the trail of dark hair on his stomach.

"You're killing me, Bella," Edward said, his voice low and gravelly.

Fortunately, things are finally looking up for our star-crossed, ill-communicating lovers. As the story nears its end, I know you'll love where bestscentever is taking us. Fortunately for me, I get to take a peek first.

If you haven't checked out Not the Marrying Kind, definitely do. It's a fun read, even if some of the themes are a bit heavy, and I know you'll love it!

The Poll: It's defective

Howdy there readers!

So here's the deal. The poll is wonky lately. We at TLS Headquarters have no clue what's making the total votes bounce from 178 to 32 but we understand that it's been a trend as of late and we think it's time we correct it. Therefore, TLS Admins (there are a lot of us, like 10 maybe?) will be judging the poll and featuring the winners until we find a solution to the public poll option.

Before you throw every internet poll in the world at me... I've tried quite a few when we've had this problem in the past. However, it has never happened with a blogger poll like this- each week, back to back to back. Each week, we normally close a poll with around 575 votes - 700. Lately the poll has ended with 110-160 and that number has bounced back and forth during the polling process, as we have monitored it, letting us know that *whispers* it's f***ed up. So I hope you guys understand, and hang in there... we'll get you back in the voting soon.

Your polling suggestions are welcome in the comments section with the link to stated poll included please.

Thanks fandom!

Title: What They Don’t Know

It’s always quick, but not unsatisfactory.  Quite the opposite actually.  I mean, why else would we risk everything for this?

Pleasure, pure and simple.

His lips set me on fire.

His fingers make me ache with want, with need.

But when he makes me his own, when he fills me so completely, my moans can’t be contained.  Instead his wet and pliable lips capture them, again and again.

This time is different than last.  He’s needy, his hands ravaging my flesh as if he’s never touched me before.

I couldn’t even finish my cigarette before he had me pinned beneath him in the backseat of his brother’s car.  The smoke fans around us, but it’s not romantic.  What we’re doing – what we’ve done – is anything but romantic.

My hand tickles the tiny hairs on his stomach.  There’s a tattoo there just for me.  It’s one of the secrets we share, an inside joke of sorts.  It’s my small claim on him.  The only one I’m entitled to.

We hear a twig snap outside the car.  We pause, his eyes capturing mine.  Wordlessly, he continues his thrusts, his smirk tells me to play along.  So I do.  I’m silent, letting my facial expressions convey just how much I enjoy this, him.

Idiots, the two of us to continue this dangerous game.  What if someone catches us?  What if that someone were his brother who’s also my husband?  What if?

The thought of being caught is too much to bear, but I’m not sure for what reason: losing my husband or his brother?  Or both?

For now, I’ll take what I can get . . . what he gives me.  And he gives it so good.

It’s just another one of the secrets we share.

Word Count: 282

It was a joke at the time, to call you a drive by.

A hit and run.

To disguise all the choking agony just beneath my tongue by twisting my mouth into a smile instead. To make light of the fact that you crashed right into me like a head-long collision of glass and metal and broken bits of wreckage.

My gasoline insides spilling across the asphalt and every inch of my interior set on fire.

You were the semi. I was the sedan.

I didn’t stand a chance.

“You wanted it this way,” you remind me as you push yourself inside and it hurts in all the places it shouldn’t. “These are your rules,” you pant.

You’re right. These are my rules.

“I want to break them all.” Your mouth is still shining from the moments you spent buried, murmuring into my pussy that you had to have me. Had to take me. Had to call me yours.

“I can’t keep doing this, I’m ruined.” You press me into the leather seats and they whine beneath us. “I won’t watch you run away anymore. It kills.”

You try to suck my heart out through my mouth when you release.

I try to claw your tattoos off your back when I come.

“Next week, I want to fuck you in your bed.” You breathe between my lips and force another orgasm from me, half limp cock still trapped and fingers slipping around close by. All I need is one stray spark to set me aflame, to agree, and I find that spark between your hit and run lips.

Beneath your drive by fingers.

This time, I don’t run away.

I walk.

Title: Stay

Life seems bleak most of the time, except for Sunday's.

We meet, we touch and we breathe together.

I live for this day all week. I see you leaning against your mustang in your faded jeans, your white shirt and that smirk that sets my body on fire.

I make an excuse to get away from everyone and when I do you grab me and pull me into your world... which is always the best place to be.

We drive, we park, we kiss, we love.

As you caress my skin I pray for every day to be Sunday. You kiss me and like always you whisper, "Stay."

I smile and press my mouth to yours to silence your pleas. I want to stay, I always do.

You thrust into me... I push.

You hide your head into the crook of my neck, your arms wrap completely around me and I gasp as you flood my senses with your aroma, your touch, your love.

"Stay," you beg.

I don't speak, I just breath you in.

My fingers trace over the tattoos on your back. I've memorized the patterns and dreamed of the stories they tell.

"Stay," you grunt as you release into me. I cling to you desperate to feel like this forever.

I want to... I can't.

You press your forehead against mine... we breathe.

I small smile plays on my lips. "Sunday," I whisper, and you shut your eyes.

"Someday you'll stay," you respond with a sly look in your eye.

"Someday, maybe."

Light from the streetlamp streams in through fogged-up windows of my ride. We’re parked at the end of the block, far enough away, but I can still hear the noises from the main drag.

“Get in the back seat” She doesn’t question; she starts to move. “Wait. Take this off first.”

My finger slides just under the hem of her skirt and I’m so fucking lost. She leans in to suck the last of the smoke from my mouth as her fingers work the zipper down. She’s over the seat before I even open my eyes.

I’m up and over, too, and her hands make quick work of my buttonfly, pushing my jeans down my legs, just enough. She leans back and I lean in. Her calf comes around my waist and pulls me into her.

My girl is fucking eager.

She’s slick and hot and warm and her pussy sucks me in. I press my lips to her neck and she’s everywhere, fucking me right. My head is spinning. My movements slow.

I look into lust-bright eyes. “Turn over.”

She twists and turns and looks over her shoulder. I lick the sweat from her spine and I’m in her again. I’m frantic. But this isn’t how I want it.

I pull back just a little, just enough.

And I press.

She whimpers.

My palm trails up her smooth skin. I grasp the back of her neck. My lips need to be on skin, my tongue needs to taste her.

“Shhh, baby. It’ll be our secret.”

And I press.

And I feel everything. She’s all around me, like smoke, and I explode.

My girl slumps forward on the seat.

Panting. Sated.

I watch my cum drip from her ass.

Slowly, God so slowly and quietly I crank out the window.  Listening, listening to see if anyone notices, anyone hears me as I slip through the window and tip toe through the garden.  I ease the latch on the gate and press my back against the fence, hugging the shadows, eyes darting this way and that.

Coast clear, I pick my way across the crunchy grass and walk towards the street, heart thumping with fear and exhilaration knowing you’ll be waiting for me in the cul-de-sac.

I see your car, grey-blue smoke drifting out the window, the bass a quiet thump from the radio.

I collapse inside the seat, now not caring that the door creaked and banged when I opened and closed it.  I am with you, no one can touch us now, together we always feel invincible.

I know when you give me your cocky smirk where you are driving us tonight.  I lean over, grab your cigarette, and kiss you hard and fierce.   “Yeah.  Let’s go.”

The car winds it way up the hill to our spot and you park.  We sit for a moment and look out over the darkened bay, pin-points of light scattered like glitter on velvet.

We aren’t kidding each other, we both jump into the back seat, shoes off, buttons undone.   I see the shadows of ink across your skin and trail my fingers over your shoulder as you yank on my jeans, taking my panties with them.

Finally, mouths breathing hard between kisses, I feel you claiming me.   All I can think about is the slide and thrust and delicious warmth blooming up inside me.  “Fuck, baby,”  You say,  “Fuck.”

And then I see my dad’s face outside the window and I know we’re busted.

I know the way you taste, the way you feel. I know the sounds you make. I know by the tone in your voice and the pressure of your touch if you will be gentle and cherish, or if you’ll be rough and take. I know your words of love, what they do to me. I’ve never felt this. Not like this. Not this much. Never this much.

You know all of these things about me too. These are the secrets we share. Secrets that must stay ours as we lie in this back seat loving each other. I’m so consumed in you. I never want this to end. Please don’t let this end. But I know it will. One day.

Because I have him, and you have her.

Four rings that bind with promises of love and forever. None of them binds us to each other.

TLS Fics of the Week 4/16 - 4/22/2013: The Sexy Six are up!

Where Roads Converge by Fluffyliz
A homeless boy, hitch-hiking in the snow, a woman on her own, running from an abusive relationship. Is she crazy to stop, or are their paths destined to cross? Can this mismatched pair find succour and salvation together, or will their pasts intrude and drive them apart? AH, rated M

I love this story and hope many of you will come to love it as well.  WRC takes place in England, and brings us a 29 yo Bella, and a 19 yo Edward.

They are both escaping from different situations in their lives, when fate makes their paths cross.   On one of the coldest nights, during a terrible storm, we find Bella running away from an abusive relationship.  During a stop for gas and coffee, she sees a young man, asking for help, for a ride.. their eyes lock for a moment, but he realizes she is scared and doesn’t approach her.  Later on she sees him walking on the highway, realizing, that if she doesn’t stop and help him, he will must surely die.  After struggling, deciding what to do, she stops, and their story begins.

Despite her pain and underlying tiredness, Bella's interest was immediately piqued, as she watched the boy speak softly to each person, then meekly accept their obvious rejection with a polite nod and a 'thank you' before moving on to the next one. There were slim pickings at this time of night, and he was quickly running out of options. She found herself fascinated by the mini soap opera playing out before her, knowing she needed to move before he got to her, but seemingly incapable of doing anything but wait for the inevitable.

From where she sat, Bella couldn't see his face, but she noted that he was tall and slim—perhaps a little too thin—but with broad shoulders and long, dark hair, streaked with fading blue and magenta, falling to his shoulder blades. He wore tight, rather grubby Levis which adhered to him, emphasising his long, long legs. Paired with the jeans, he wore a black, long-sleeved thermal shirt, and gripped in his left hand was what looked like a short, biker-style, black leather jacket. He had a large duffel bag slung over one shoulder, but, despite the plummeting temperature outside, appeared to possess no cold weather clothing or a proper coat. Finishing off his outfit, he wore a pair of very shabby-looking black Nikes, which looked like they would be as effective at keeping his feet warm and dry as a pair of flip-flops. She hoped he had a car parked outside, but suspected he was actually trawling for a lift.

Bella took in all this just before he finally turned to survey the opportunities on her side of the café. As he did so, her pupils dilated and her nostrils flared in a primal response over which she had absolutely no control.

Despite the slightly greasy, multi-coloured hair, the multiple silver rings piercing one ear from top to bottom, the small, dark-stoned stud in his nose and the oddly contrasting, dark copper stubble which blurred the line of what she instinctively knew was a sharply chiselled jaw, the only thought which sprang immediately to mind was, so beautiful, but so very sad.

She knew that, no matter how long she lived, the face of this striking young man would haunt her dreams, both waking and sleeping. Too thin as he was, there was something positively Byronic about him… a kind of consumptive feverishness in his glittering jade eyes and pale, pale skin which, nevertheless, held two spots of livid colour across his high, sculpted cheekbones.

His wide, limpid eyes swept across her own face, focussing, in stages, on her full, slightly parted lips, on the purple and red swelling across her cheek and nose, and then, finally, on her striking brown eyes. His gaze was intense, and Bella found herself incapable of looking away. As he zeroed in on her injury, his expression morphed into a frown and then, rather shockingly, turned into a look of such complete and utter defeat, that she had to tear her eyes from his face or weep for him. Even as she dropped her gaze, she saw him move, and when she looked back up, he had turned and was walking away towards the exit.

We learn that Bella is a first time author, working on her second book, and a very successful book illustrator, with humble beginnings, she knows what it means to struggle.  As the story progresses, we realize that Edward is a sad, haunted young man, fighting his own demons, hiding a very sad story.  They are both in need of healing, can they find it in each other?

It's not my problem…

Telling herself she was insane, she again hit the brakes and stopped the car, barely yards from where she would be forced to join the inside lane of the motorway. She looked in the mirror, but he was just standing there, head down, shivering violently, and it occurred to her that she might already be too late. Quickly looking all around her, she put the car in reverse and carefully starting backing up, all the while keeping her eyes glued to her nearside wing mirror, where she could see the young man almost literally frozen to the spot.

She stopped just in front of him and leaned over to push the passenger door open, shivering as the icy air immediately slithered inside the car and chased the warmth away. Turning to look through the back window, she saw him, finally, lift his head and gaze at the car, seemingly bemused to see it there in front of him. Shaking her head, Bella climbed out of the car, and ran round the back. She couldn't help being taken aback by just how cold it was, and wondered how he had survived out here for the last half an hour or more since he'd left the café.

"Just get in the damned car before we both freeze to death… and before I change my bloody mind!" she yelled.

She is heading to a cottage, left to her by her grandmother, a place her ex-boyfriend Jake, knows nothing about and realizes she can’t just drop him off anywhere during this awful storm, and she takes the risk, and brings him with her.  They are snowed in, and little by little they get closer, an attraction begins to emerge, that both are fighting.. she feels too old for him.. he feels not good enough.. how long will they be able to resist?

Suddenly mindless of the cold, Bella threw back the duvet, and shot out of bed, not even bothering with her robe or slippers.

She yanked open her door and flew down the hallway, stopping abruptly in front of Edward's door and knocking a rapid tattoo on the wood.

"Edward… Edward… are you okay? Edward?"

"Please nooooo... pleeeaasse."

A loud sob burst out of him and Bella couldn't wait any longer. Twisting the doorknob, she threw the door open and strode quickly over to the bed, where Edward was twisted up in his duvet, tossing and turning violently as his hands flailed about him, as if trying to fight off an invisible assailant.

Without really knowing what she was doing, Bella acted on instinct alone. Grabbing his two hands in hers, she held them to her chest as she bent over the bed and called out to him.

"Edward, hey, it's okay, shhhh, it's all okay, you're safe…"

His hands stopped trying to pull away from her and she let go of one of them in order to free up her own hand. As she did, she felt his grip on her other hand tighten. Climbing up on the bed to sit beside him, she reached up and ran her fingers through his hair. It wasn't that clean, feeling a little greasy, but she was surprised at how soft it was, nevertheless. She repeated the soothing gesture, and was pleased to see that he was beginning to calm.

"Shhh, beautiful boy, it's fine, you're safe… shhh, sleep now, everything's going to be okay…" She continued to stroke his hair and coo softly to him until he stopped jerking and crying out, and she could tell by his breathing that he had fallen into a dreamless sleep.

It was at this point that she realised how cold she was, despite having left the heating on. She started to get up, pulling gently to extricate her hand from his, but, even in sleep, she felt him tense and hold on tighter. She stopped pulling for a moment, waiting until she felt his fingers relax, and then finally managed to get her hand free.
She stood beside the bed for a moment, rubbing her hands up and down her arms to warm herself as she looked down on his thin, gaunt face. She had drawn the curtains earlier, but he had obviously opened them again before getting into bed, and now she could clearly see his striking features in the silvery light cast by the nearly full moon, it's glow accentuated by the reflection from the bright, white snow.

Not for the first time, she had to shake herself to rid her mind of the sly thoughts which tried to insinuate themselves into her consciousness—thoughts she had no business giving house-room to.

Edward was a homeless itinerant, probably barely out of his teens, and she had left a bad relationship only hours earlier. Whatever pull she felt towards him was surely borne out of sympathy for his plight, nothing more.

"Pull yourself to pieces, you foolish woman," she whispered irritably to the silent room, then turned away from the bed and hurried back to her own room.

As she slid back into bed she didn't notice the snow starting to fall again, huge flakes swirling around in the escalating breeze and beginning to adhere to her curtained window.

I can’t wait to read, how FluffyLiz, brings these two together, overcoming all the obstacles that will sure be in their way.  Give it a try and fall in love with it!

The Cullen Legacy by Pattyrose

Sometimes when you’re writing a review you don’t want to give too much away but you also want to make sure everyone knows how much you like a story.  The Cullen Legacy by pattyrose is one of those WIPs where you find out a little more with each chapter and sometimes speculating as to what is going to happen (or what happened in the past) is half the fun.

The first thing you wonder when you start to read is what the hell did Edward do to piss Bella off?  She really has it in for him, and it seems has felt that way for years. We see the world through her eyes and the way she observes and assesses, you can just tell she has something major planned.  Her main objective: make Edward Cullen pay. Chapter one alone gives us a few morsels but not too much, making you just want to keep reading to find out what exactly happened seven years ago.  Bella is feisty and obviously scorned; she has a plan and is determined to stick to it.

The washroom walls are all mirrored, top to bottom, perfectly polished, not a blemish anywhere. I watch myself walk in. My hair flows in spiraling waves round my shoulders, long and shining. The red dress billows at my ankles then splits invitingly in the front before hugging my thighs and lifting my breasts provocatively. The black stilettos give my legs a slinky, sensuous length. Seven years ago, the plans I had for my life were so simple; so different from what they've become. Seven years ago he stepped into my life and invited me to picture myself at his side; let me believe that I would be with him as he rose through the political world in America.

Seven years ago, he lied.

Now, he'll pay.

We find out quickly that Edward is a Congressman, fast on his way to becoming president. Bella is from the UK and is one of the highest ranking exec’s at Newton Enterprises.  She’s at a benefit that the President is attending, in honor of Congressman Cullen, with her boss and maybe-something-more Michael Newton, who doesn’t know anything of her past.   We see her polished and poised and calculating, she knows exactly how to read Edward, you can tell she has waited seven years for this very moment.  When Edward finds her alone, what occurs is sexy and a little dirty and bloody excellent; she’s mad and he has absolutely no idea what is going on.

I cock my head to the side. "That, Congressman, was for coming in here and assuming that I am still your weekend slut."

"Christ, Bella, I never-"

"You've missed me, have you, Love?" I drop the well-polished English and let my accent revert to the cockney he once claimed he loved. "Well, don't fret. You'll be getting your fill of me in the near future, you will. This here was just a taste, Congressman Cullen, of how I have you by the bollocks. You've missed me?" I repeat. "Trust me, pretty soon you'll wish you'd never laid eyes on me again."

Chapter two takes us back in time to the day Edward and Bella first meet. We start to learn a little more about her; where she’s from, who her friends are, what she does.  And perhaps we have Jake and his unwanted advances towards Bella to thank for Edward and her getting together.  Bella works at a pub and Edward and some of his men are there drinking, acting up and enjoying themselves while on leave from the US Army.  When Bella takes a detour through the park on the way home from work, to avoid Jake, Edward follows and approaches her.

Actually, there aren't many people out here at all. I suppose it's due to the rain, which has started falling more insistently. I pull my hood round my head tighter, but it's either this or go home and spend a late evening into early morning with Jake wanting to give me a go.

I'll take the rain.

My mind wanders to my mum and little sister back home. Maybe I'll take the rail tomorrow morning and go visit them and-

Someone pulls my hood down off my head and my heart drops to my bloody feet before I whirl around and find myself staring back into those green eyes from the pub.

"You just frightened the ever-living shite out of me!"

Green Eyes stands there, resting his weight over one hip, hands in his pockets. One half of his mouth lifts up into the most glorious grin imaginable. I am struck mute. Thank goodness he starts talking.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to. I was actually trying to come up with a way to approach you without giving you a scare."

My brows furrow curiously while he stands there, something between a smirk and a smile forming on his face. I am now able to form words once more.

"How long have you been behind me?"

"Since you left the pub."

"You've been following me since I left the pub?"

He nods. "Your friends were right. It's not the safest thing for you to be out here alone at this time of night."

I purse my lips and study him. The rain is still falling, not hard, but not lightly either. Drops fall over his face, but he doesn't seem to mind. He's wearing an open bomber jacket, and his t shirt is getting rather wet – outlining a well-toned chest. He runs a hand through his hair to push it back. A few bits spike up here and there, and now it looks even more perfect than before.

From this moment we see something stirring between them.  He is really charming and damn good-looking and she sees something more in him, and right there is where you want to know what went wrong, because it seems like it might be pretty damn perfect when they do get together.

I'm bewildered and confused and excited beyond anything I've ever been.

"I don't even know your name," I breathe incredulously, searching his eyes because I feel as if it's the only part of him I can truly trust.

"Sergeant Edward Anthony Cullen, of the U.S. Army Special Forces," he smirks. "What's your name?"

"Bella," I respond, still in a daze. "I'm Bella."

"Bella," he repeats, only in his voice it sounds like a prayer, like a plea.

"Bella, I don't want this night to end," he whispers.

I search his eyes once more, scanning one and then the other, unsure as to what I'm looking for, yet somehow it's there. It's there; I'm sure it is.

"Neither do I," I admit, shaking my head vehemently.

"Good," he grins, and then brings his mouth back to mine, and the way he kisses me this time simply confirms that the night is only just beginning.

Pattyrose is excellent at setting the scene without giving a lot away and each chapter she gives us reveals something new.  The switching between past and present isn’t annoying and doesn’t affect the flow of the story, if anything, it helps you understand what is going on.  Bella is strong and yet you see some vulnerability about her, she’s vengeful that’s for sure but you want to know why.  Edward is confident and a little cocky and in the past he is quite sweet, and damn sexy.  Present Edward takes a few chapters to emerge, seeing as he’s seen through Bella’s point of view.

The Cullen Legacy is a great story; it has it all, it’s sexy, sweet, touching, with a touch of drama and a lot of mystery.  It’s certainly one to check out!
