What I love most about Beyond the Break Room is NOT the smoking hot sex scenes—though there are plenty of them and they curled my panties—and not even the sexual tension that builds Monday through Friday at work because they can’t risk getting caught. Nope. What I love most is this Edward’s vulnerability, and the fact that despite the clear barriers to their relationship (a problematic boss-subordinate work relationship, a huge age difference, and Edward’s difficult daughter), the most powerful obstacle they must overcome as a couple is his utter disbelief that this beautiful creature might want him as much as he so desperately wants her.
This endearing quality shows itself time and time again throughout the story, and each time, my breath catches in my throat at Edward’s self-doubt and sweet humility.
"What are you thinking?" he asked.
"Really? You're asking me this now?" I asked in disbelief. "I can barely string two words together at the moment."
"So, it was good?" he asked, looking suddenly vulnerable.
"Jesus, Edward, it was off the charts good. I've never had better."
His small smile turned smug. "Really?"
"Really. You have a hot, younger woman in your bed who you've just thoroughly satisfied. Why aren't you just enjoying this?"
"Because I have a hot, younger woman in my bed, and I don't understand what you are doing with someone like me."
I raised an eyebrow at him. "Having some incredibly hot sex. Do you mind?"
He sighed and traced his finger down the valley between my breasts. "I'm serious; just indulge me here for a moment."
"Okay. You really don't understand what I see in you?"
"No."
"Edward, you're a brilliant, hard-working, devastatingly handsome man who just reduced me to a useless blob of jelly with your cock."

All righty then! And how I fall for VPward (is that a guy?) every time he just goes ahead and confesses everything he feels...
"I think I just lost control. I liked having my mouth on you so much; I was a little rougher than I planned. I'll admit to a certain amount of male pride at the sight of you being claimed as mine. Still, I'll have to be more careful. I don't want to leave you with marks you might get questions about at work."
"That's appreciated. But I might let you mark me, if it's somewhere hidden."
His eyes gleamed. "Hmm, that's a thought."
"Just so you know, I might want to return the favor."
I leaned down and pressed my lips against the skin left bare by the V-neck undershirt of his. He groaned when I kissed there. "You can do anything you'd like to me."
I laughed lowly. "You should be careful about saying that. I might take advantage."
"Bella, I want you in every way possible. Believe me, there is no taking advantage of me. I spent this whole week desperate to be with you again.”

I love this Bella, too. Have I mentioned that? She’s thoughtful and smart and caring, and mostly I love her because she’s so good for this Edward...
"What's the one fantasy you had the most? The one that always made you come the hardest. Tell me that."
He swallowed hard and wet his lips. "I … I imagined you …"
I brushed my lips lightly against his jaw. "Tell me. Let me make it come true for you."
"I've imagined your mouth on me, sucking me off." He closed his eyes, but not before I saw the hopeful, almost ashamed, look on his face.

GAH! Suffice it to say, she brings that fantasy to life, and she’s rewarded a couple days later when he shares yet another of his fantasies. I mean, this guy has some SUPER AWESOME ideas about how to spend the workday...
I was startled when he spoke. "I jerked off in my office, once."
"What?" I blinked at him; my mind so far gone in pleasure that I could hardly even focus on what he was saying.
"That day you wore the tight black skirt and white sweater. And, the high heels that made your legs look so good. I talked to you that morning, and then went to a meeting. I spent the whole meeting with the smell of your perfume in my nose and the worst hard-on I've ever had to deal with. I spent the entire time imagining you spread out across the goddamn table in the boardroom."
His hands slid up my thighs, thumbs dragged up the soft skin achingly slowly. "I fucked up my presentation that morning, and it was your fault. I couldn't concentrate on anything but the image of that skirt slid up around your hips and your heels digging into my back as I ate you out. I wanted to know if you tasted like I imagined.
"After the meeting, I went back to the office. I told Pat I had an important call to make, and locked the door. I sat at my desk and I thought I'd have a heart attack as I unzipped and pulled my cock out. I could almost taste you. I felt so guilty thinking of you that way, and yet, I couldn't stop."
His thumbs stopped at the crease of my inner thighs.
"I swear I nearly blacked out when I came. When I ran out of the building that night, I wondered if you could read me, see what I'd done. And then I got hard again, thinking maybe you'd like knowing what I'd done."

I’m pretty sure I’d like to know someone did that. Sigh...VPward is a keeper, and so is this Bella. Discordia Writes has a sexy story here, but there’s depth and connections and real character growth. I really hope these two can work through all their issues, because when they’re together, all three of us are just happier.

As a Seattle sports talk radio host, it's my job to give my opinion on the Seahawks new quarterback, Edward Cullen. But maybe I shouldn't have said what I did...you know, about his butt. E/B Rated M for language and adult content.Rated: Fiction M

Quarterback Sneak was first recommended to me by my good friend Errontrisha when I went through my Sportingward stage. By complete chance, I ended up starting it on the night of The Superbowl. Being British, I didn’t know much about American Football and I had never seen a game before but it convinced me to give it a go and I ended up enjoying the game. Even if I was up all night.
One of the things I love most about fanfiction is how after four years in the community I am still shocked by authors and how they chose to portray their characters. Jayhawkbb is one of those authors. I honestly believed that we would be seeing another cocky, arrogant and well accomplished Edward who would give Bella the run around until he realised that he had fallen in love with her. Then Bella would be a shy non-sporting fan who fell for his looks first and his personality later. I could not have been more wrong.
When we are introduced to Bella, she’s starting her first morning shift at the radio station she works for as a sporting journalist, after agreeing to switch shifts to help them out of a tight spot. Her first big story on the shift is the breaking news that Edward Cullen has transferred to the Seattle Seahawks as their new starting Quarterback. Throughout the show we learn that although this is not the start of Edward’s career, it is his fist time as a starting player, having spent the last two seasons as a backup for the Arizona Cardinals.
We also see a very different Bella who is truly one of the guys. She enjoys most sports, apart from soccer, which made me laugh as being British it’s the one sport I know best. Her best friend, Emmett, is her co-host for the morning show and he has no problems teasing her about what she wears and how she picks players for her fantasy team. "Bella, tell everyone about our upcoming fantasy draft…tell them how you pick your team based on whose butts look good."
This leads to plenty more teasing on air and to Bella finally making a comment that she will never live down when Emmett asks for her opinion on Cullen’s butt; "I've seen twenty quarterbacks with better butts than Cullen's," I announce snootily. "Even Grandpa Favre's is nicer. Heck, I've seen defensive linemen whose butts are better than Cullen's. And you know, Emmett, quarterbacks aren't the backsides I usually draft. I really prefer a tight end." Of course, plenty of women call their show to tell her just how wrong she is.
The next day, everything seems to be going well for Bella, besides the daily annoyance that is Mike Newton, the show’s producer, who seems to have it in for Bella ever since she turned him down as an intern. Towards the end of the day Bella is given a surprise guest, in the form of Edward Cullen and his highly talked about butt, backing into the studio where Bella is able to judge him up close and in person. “Even under the broken-in jeans he's wearing, I can see that I have clearly under-assessed his, um, assets. The ass beneath the distressed denim is superior.”
It is from this moment on, that I realised that my initial thoughts on Edward were completely wrong. He is incredibly sweet and down to Earth, with him actually seeing the humour behind Bella’s comments. He tells Bella that “They played your comments about my ass on a loop in the locker room after practice.” And where I was expecting him to be mad, Edward was only messing about with Bella.
The readers can immediately see the attraction between the two main characters. Bella is taken with Edward the moment he enters the studio. However, Edward, is the first to ask Bella out, that very day and she is the one to shoot him down citing his reputation and her credibility as the reasons why.
Throughout the next few chapters Edward asks Bella out a further two times while she continues to shoot him down, giving him excuses that she is also struggling to believe in. I admit, that at one point, when she walked away from Edward, I really thought he would give up on her. However, what I didn’t see coming was his tenacity. Edward just won’t take no for an answer.
When Bella finally gives in and allows Edward to take her for dinner they have a nice evening, talking about their family and their education. There are also plenty of surprises in that discussion. Yet, once again, when Edward asks for a second date, Bella shoots him down. The disappointment Edward feels is crippling and you can almost sense that this is it. Bella has blown her last chance and she can feel it too. That’s what motivates her to push aside her reservations and concerns and to finally make a move on Edward and begin their secret romance.
As we see more and more of Edward and Bella’s relationship developing I found myself falling more and more in love with him. He is such a sweet and genuine guy, not at all the playboy type that I was expecting. He calls her, just because he wants to hear her voice; buys her cake for her birthday; listens to her show every morning because “I like hearing your voice when I wake up,” but more importantly, he supports her career whole heartedly.
One of Bella’s biggest reservations about their dating was that she wouldn’t be objective when it came to analysing his performance for the show. She struggles to do just that the day after their first date and of course, Edward being the gentleman he is, texts her to tell her to “Quit being so nice.” Things are definitely awkward between them when Bella has to try and talk either about him or to him for the show but they seem to be improving more and more with every day they spend together.
Edward is adorable when we see him after the Seahawks lose their next game. Bella feels a little out her depth trying to offer him comfort; she assures him that his performance improved and that he should be proud of himself. It’s not until she gives him a little tough love and assures him that the other team were better than the Seahawks that he finally slips out of it. It is this moment when I realised how good for each other they truly were. I doubt any other woman would understand football enough to be able to give Edward the information he needed to put the game to rest.
When Bella goes to LA for the week for work, we get to see progress in their relationship. Edward is waiting for Bella by her truck before she leaves, wanting to say goodbye in person, even though they had spent the evening before together. He even manages to label Bella as his girlfriend without her freaking out, and I wasn’t expecting that for at least another ten chapters.
Then, when Bella returns from LA she is desperate to hear from Edward. When her cell battery dies on the plane she even contemplates using Emmett’s to let him know she is home before deciding to just go straight to him. That is the first night they spend together and it filled me with hope that Bella will be able to overcome her commitment issues given time.
I’m really looking forward to seeing what the future will hold for them, and a small part of me is terrified about all of the threats still standing in their way; Bella’s contract with the station may cause problems if her bosses decide that seeing Edward is a conflict of interests. I am sure Newton would have no problem reporting her if he thought it would get one up on her.
The press finding out about their relationship could cause them both issues, not only with their jobs but with their day to day lives. While Bella is a local radio star, she is definitely not used to being hounded by journalists and photographers on her down time.
Then there is Tanya, the ex-girlfriend that Edward still considers a friend and that his parents love. What if she decides that she wants to be with a star quarterback and tries to win Edward back?
Perhaps the biggest issue they face is Bella’s own fear of commitment. I am sure there is more to her story than she is letting on so far and I hope she opens up to Edward about it soon so that they can work together to help her trust in him and their relationship.
However, if you’re anything like me, I am sure you will agree that a fic just isn’t fun if there isn’t a little angst to overcome first. I cannot wait to see where Jayhawkbb decides to take us next.
