I've noticed lately that some authors are on these lists/polls quite often....sure some have so many fics you can't count but I think we should give other people a chance, too. It should not matter whether the author is friends with one of the admins or not.

it's not interesting seeing one author day in day out with fics I've read two years ago.
I can see your frustration, but TLS is essentially an online reading circle with over 300 members.
ReplyDeleteIt's only natural that some of our members have a favorite author that they follow and rec. Are relishing in and rediscovering. Or falling in love with for the first time.
*shrugs* All we do is the note keeping at the meetings.

makaki84, I absolutely agree with you! It has been on my mind for some time to comment about it following discussion with other users.
ReplyDeleteChances are if you find a great story here & love it, you will put the author(s) on alert yourself, so it isn't necessary for the same names to be repeated. Maybe the inclusion on polls could be restricted so no 1 author is listed more than once in a 3 or 4 month period? There are so many writers out there that this is entirely possible - especially with members forced to look beyond their favorites. This would give others a chance, would prevent the polls becoming stale (which is why I vote less & less), & save the same writers being promoted continuously.
I enjoy the site...it's my go to fic tool & otherwise I have no grumbles :)

In response to your poll concerns;
This blog and the Meet the Poll posts are a direct reflection of the stories we are actually reading each week, not the stories that we feel need notoriety. There is no fair or unfair, we simply post what we are reading each week.
If you are concerned about some of your favorites being a part of our polls and are not in our facebook group, then please feel free to recommend a story to us. We will be happy to check it out and if we agree with your recommendation we will be happy to include it.
The Lemonade Stand has a versatile poll every week. Some weeks there will be an author that has been on a previous poll and some weeks there will be all new authors, but being that each week we offer almost 20 stories, and we have been posting for 10 months, there will certainly be times when authors that have already been on the poll, will be there again.
Thanks so much for your suggestions and we are happy to have you guys reading each week!
