TLS Special SNEAK PEEK Feature

The Lemonade Stand has spent so many years bringing you the best the Twilight fandom has to offer, and we are very excited to have the chance to offer you even MORE. We've watched stories grow and develop from first post through COMPLETE, and now we're lucky enough to share previews of the stories that will soon be your new addiction.

When fandom favorite MrsSpaceCowboy mentioned she was working on 'a scary little something' for Halloween, we couldn't wait to showcase her efforts! The author of legendary fics like The Give Away Girl, Down Home, and Rest My Soul, is breaking away from her norm and giving us a horror fic. Are you brave enough to join us as we read The Sonoran Inn?

The Sonoran Inn by MrsSpaceCowboy

Summary: Somewhere, just off an Arizona highway in the Sonoran Desert, there’s an inn carved into the rocks. The owner and her staff are beautiful and eager to please… until it’s time to leave. There’s no way out, and beauty is skin deep.

This is not a love story.

x0x0x0x

I’m a “sunshine and rainbows with a sprinkle of angst for good measure” kind of girl. Those are the stories I like to tell. Most of the time.

Then there are plot bunnies like this one that hit with the force of a blunt object and make me WTF myself. Horror? How did that happen? Well, it started a few years ago with a contest I couldn’t write for at the time, and then, like so many of my other stories, there was a song.

So here we are.

The Sonoran Inn is not a love story. The villainess of this story doesn’t want a redemption arc. She is unapologetic, and that’s okay. This story isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay, too. There will be non-canon pairings. There will be character death—yes, major character death—because this is not a love story. The first chapter(s) will post Sunday, and the rest will follow over the next few days. We’ll wrap up on Halloween.

Have a spooky week, y’all.

They rented surfboards in Santa Cruz and caught waves bigger than any they’d ever seen at La Push or Westport. Edward’s pasty skin bronzed as the days passed, and his dark hair lightened under the sun. Girls in bikinis and moms in swim dresses approached the boys if they stayed on the sand too long, so they spent as much time as possible in the water.

And at night, Edward would take his phone and walk out to the patio chairs next to the hotel pool and call his girl to say goodnight. Once or twice, he had to soothe her through ugly bouts of vomiting and longed for the second trimester to hurry. They’d been told she might feel better then.

Edward was counting on it, because he wanted her there when he graduated from boot camp. He wanted to take her to a hotel that night and bend her over every piece of furniture in the room and then fall asleep with his ear against her belly.

He tilted his head back and listened to the waves licking at the beach, inhaled deep briny gulps of air, and stared at the stars as he listened to her talk about her days. The dirty looks. The judgmental stares.

“Fuck those people,” he told her. “We’re going places, you and me. Eventually, I’ll be able to request where we live. We’ll have beach babies and forget rainy Forks ever existed.”

“Sounds good to me,” Tanya replied. Then she dropped the phone to throw up again.

The guys pulled out of Santa Cruz early the next day and hit every beach they could until they woke up days later, shortly after noon in San Diego with eleven days left until showtime.

“I’ve got an aunt in Tucson,” Jasper said. “Ever been to Arizona?”

Edward shook his head, and they tossed their duffel bags into the backseat and hit the road instead of the waves. The sun began to sink as they sped through Yuma, kicking up dust and pointing at odd, phallic-shaped cacti and gorgeous tile-roofed cottages in every size and color. The dummy light kicked on a few miles outside of Gila Bend, so Jasper eased the Jeep off the highway at the first Love’s Travel Stop along the way.

The sky was golden pink in every direction when Edward’s feet hit the concrete next to the gas pump. He reached for it and stretched on his toes. Then he twisted his neck back and forth and grinned.

A tiny brunette in tinier denim shorts peeked around the pump and eyed him from head to toe. Edward smirked and nodded. “What’s up?”

Her red lips curved into a wide grin, and she lifted her sunglasses to rest on top of her head. “Hi.”

Edward swiped his card and waited a few moments before keying in his PIN. He lifted the nozzle and hit the button for regular unleaded. Then he waved at the cutie and followed Jasper inside to take a piss and maybe grab a candy bar.

A pleasant floral and berry scent hit him in the candy aisle a moment before a soft voice greeted him. “Where are you headed?” the brunette from outside asked after reaching for a bag of Sour Gummies.

“The clouds,” Edward replied. His eyes dropped to the edge of her calf and back up to her creamy thigh. He plucked a Snickers from the display and turned on his heel, willing his dick to cut him some slack.

She followed him through the store and over to the short line at the register. “I’m Isabella,” she said.

He glanced back. “Edward.”

Jasper saved him by cutting between them with his arms loaded with candy and sodas. “It’s going to be a long night, and some guy in the shitter said the next gas station is on the other side of the desert.” He noticed Isabella and lost his train of thought at the sight of her cleavage against the orange tank top that clung to her slim waist. He licked his bottom lip, and Edward’s hand twitched at his side.

Edward shoulder-checked his friend to turn him around so they could pay and hit the road. His head cleared the second he breathed in fresh air. The harsh smell of gasoline greeted him back at the pump. There was a small puddle next to the back tire of Jasper’s Jeep.

A tall guy in swim trunks and Chacos popped his head around the tank. “The auto-shut off failed,” he said with a shrug. “Sorry I couldn’t stop it sooner.”

Edward groaned when he saw the charges but reached out to shake the stranger’s hand. “Thanks, man.”

“Anytime.”

Isabella’s perfume danced on the breeze. “Let’s go, Felix,” she said, folding her tiny frame around her companion’s thick side. “I want to get back before dark.” Felix nodded and checked the ties on a tarp covering the back of their rusty, old pickup truck. Isabella turned to Edward and smiled. “Be careful out there,” she said. “The desert can get a little weird after dark.”

We've watched stories grow and develop from first post through COMPLETE, and now we're lucky enough to share previews of the stories that will soon be your new addiction.

When one of your favorite writers sends you a couple chapters of this “possible fic thing” she’s been working on, you drop everything to check it out!! I dusted off my fangirl t-shirt & pom poms and encouraged this thought process. (I know I’m showing my age, but I grew up in the era of Slam books, big poofy hair and Aquanet, can’t forget the Aquanet, so I pretty much could relate to this entire story). From the amazing writer that brought you so many legendary fics like The Give Away Girl, Down Home, and Rest My Soul, let’s give a shout to MrsSpaceCowboy for her new fic!

Slammed
by
MrsSpaceCowboy

Summary: 1988. High school, poofed bangs, and slam books. It’s funny how much damage one little spiral notebook can do.

A while back, I promised to post a little 80s-themed story I was working on, if I ever finished it. My new story Slammed was born after a visit to my bestie’s house on a night that involved way too much wine and some silly reminiscing about slam books, particularly the dozens of them she and I signed and made through the years. After a few Advils and a good night’s sleep, I woke up refreshed with a plot bunny that wouldn’t go away. Here I am, a few years later, to share it and hopefully bring some fun and laughter to the experience.

Bella Swan is a star basketball player at Forks High who’s nursed a lifelong crush on Edward Masen, captain of the boys’ basketball team. Only her besties, Alice and Jessica, know about it. Senior year is all about firsts, lasts, and choosing how you’re going out and what comes next. In a rare moment of bravery, Bella confesses her feelings in Alice’s senior slam book. What happens next? Sign in and find out.

~ xOxOxO ~

“Welcome back,” Mr. Banner says in the hall when Alice and I walk past the door to his classroom.

“Right,” she says. “How can he be so cheery?”

“Maybe he got laid over break.” I open my locker and give my bangs one last inspection before switching out my books to lighten my backpack.

“Grody. But I guess it could happen. Here,” she says, shoving a spiral notebook with holographic tie-dyed print on the cover into my hands. “Something for you to do today.”

“What is it?” I ask.

“Just do it.” Silver bangle bracelets clink and shift when she lifts her hand to wave goodbye. “I’ll see you after third.”

A glance inside the cover makes me laugh out loud in the middle of the busy hall.

Another fucking slam book.

She’s done one every year since eighth. This is senior year. You’d think she would’ve outgrown this by now. At least the title page isn’t in bubble letters this time. And the ink is black instead of rainbow.

I carry it with me into Banner’s class, because if ever there was a class dull enough to warrant a slam book, it’s his.

The room is stale from our extended holiday, and dust particles float in the air and hover when I pull out my stool and toss my stuff onto the counter in front of me. Before I have a chance to settle in and get comfortable, someone calls Edward Masen’s name from the hall.

Like a lovesick magnet, I glance at the door.

~ xOxOxO ~

MrsSpaceCowboy always brings great love stories and lots of moments that are completely relatable. If you haven’t read her work, you are in for a treat! We hope you will join us in reading her new fic. Pop her on alert so you know when she hits publish!  ~ Nic

TLS Fics of the Week 11/26-12/2 The Fab Five Are Up!

Awkwardly Yours by Vancouver-Canuck-Girl
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/9557633/1/Awkwardly-Yours
High school Edward likes a girl named Bella, But he's not a smooth-talking kind of fella. He has his fair share of inserting foot into mouth, And inappropriate risings down south. But he's really kind of sweet, Even if he's sort of a geek. Rated M

Reviewed by: Fanfic Maplestyle

I first had the esteemed pleasure of reading something by Vancouver Canuck Girl when she was rec’d back in July of 2012 for The Real Life of E.A. Masen. Like the bad reviewer I am when it comes to stories already being posted, I read all sixteen posted chapters before leaving just one little line, where the story was rec’d and how much I loved it so far. That sparked a friendship that has spanned across two one shots and a multi-chapter story that made me laugh, cry, want to slap Edward in the face and sometimes Bella too.

Back in March she approached me while I was doing a re-read of E.A. Masen with a question that would eventually take me on an incredible journey, one I’d never taken before, that of a pre-reader, It was for a story she was working on tentatively called F*ck My Life that centers around an incredibly awkward teenage Edward, who finds himself in all sorts of trouble due to both his awkwardness and his lack of filter.

She put this boy through everything. From his parents thinking he was gay:

My mom grinned. "Aww! You have a crush on Isabella?"

"I do not. She's not my type."

"What is your type – Mike Newton?"

"Yeah, Jazz, Newton's totally my type." I spoke with a lisp to make my point. It's called sarcasm and I'm quite fluent in it.

Sparking a hilarious conversation regarding his love life, with either a man or a woman:

Mom shook her head. "So, do you actually have feelings for Bella?"

"I don't think she's my type."

"What is your type?"

Right then, I should have been honest and told them, hell yes, she's totally my type. Instead I remained tight-lipped, and simply shrugged.

"Your mom and I want you to know that whatever you decide in life, we will support you. If you were perhaps interested in say….men, we'd still love you."

I was completely oblivious to what he was insinuating.

"Great, thanks, I can go now? Wait a sec, did you say … ewww! No! I'm not interested in men!"

My mom patted my hand. "It's okay, Edward, if you are."

"I'm not!"

"We've always known you were … different … from your brother."

"Different? Yeah we're different. We have different fathers! That's not what you're talking about though, is it?"

They both shrugged as I asked.

"I'm no different than Jasper! I like boobs, and porn and all that stuff. When I jerk off— never mind." I scrubbed my hands over my embarrassed face. Even though I'd pretty much just bared my most intimate thoughts, my parents still didn't look convinced.

"Listen, I may not be having sex all the time like Jasper, but I want to, okay? With a girl." I thought it was really important to clarify that point.

This of course gets him in trouble with his brother:

Jasper knocked on my door a while later. As soon as I let him in, he tackled me to the ground.

"Get off me!"

"Eat shit and die, Edward. Why'd you tell Mom and Dad that Alice and I were having sex?"

"Well, you are, aren't you?"

"No, we're not."

I managed to push him off me and stood up. "Yeah, right, you're not having sex. I'm not stupid." I rolled my eyes. "You told me in the car you don't jerk off anymore."

"I have Alice to do it for me, idiot. There's a lot of other fun things to do besides fucking, baby bro. One day, you'll understand." He patted my head all condescending like as he went to leave then stopped in the doorway.

"I'm supposed to ask you – brother to brother – if you're gay. Mom and Dad think you'll tell me honestly."

"Are you kidding me? No! Hell no! I'm not gay! I don't like dick. I like Bella, okay? I've jerked off to pictures of her in my head the last three nights."

Jasper held his hand up. "Need to know basis. God, that's disgusting. Do you not have a filter?"

The answer to that question is no, Jasper, he does not have a filter!

Vancouver Canuck Girl certainly puts this Edward through the wringer as you can tell from the above examples, and those are only in the first chapter of the story. She also has him caught masturbating by his mother, buying tampons for his sister by his crush, really awkward sex talks with his father and probably the funniest virginity loosing scenes I have ever read, all the while telling a really sweet love story at the same time. One that proves that you only have to be yourself and there is someone out there that loves you for you.

Each chapter is wrapped up by a poem that Edward writes in his journal about his day:

Tonight I got caught jerking off

All because I didn't hear my mother knock.

So put away your beverages to save your computers and have a laugh at one of the most awkward and adorable Edward’s I have ever read in Awkwardly Yours. Vancouver Canuck Girl can bring the funny like nobody’s business and as much as I am honoured to know her as a writer, I am more honoured to be able to call her a friend.

TLS Fics of the Week 8/20/13- 8/26/13: The Fab Five are up!

The Practicum by TheFicChick
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8906792/1/
The-Practicum"We're going to be teaching high schoolers how not to get each other knocked up or infected with gonorrhea. It's hardly a romantic evening for two." Rated M

Reviewed by: DH78

There are fics that try to do fluff and are not quite successful because they lack the interesting little hiccups that make a good story. It’s sticky sweet and when they end,we’re left wondering how much sugar we consumed without biting into something delicious.

Empty calories.

Not this one. No siree.

The Practicum by TheFicChick gives you something to enjoy; the sweetness, the naturally-moving UST, the fuck hot PE coach-slash-health teacher with a propensity for blushing, and the smart, realistic female lead that is equal parts sexy and intelligent.

The story follows Bella, English teacher teaching in the small town she was raised in,and the new guy, Edward. He’s an ex-soccer player coaching Forks High’s talented soccer team and newly appointed Health/sex ed teacher. Bella’s assigned to assist him with teaching the curriculum, and well... you can imagine...

Edward should be cocky and over-sexed, considering his looks and athletic background. But he’s not. He’s sweet, a complete gentleman, and sexy in a completely adorable way. He’s not a complete prude, but he’s definitely the kind of guy we would probably meet in RL.

Bella’s a great, natural character. I love realistic Bellas. I also love witty ones.

Here’s a little clip from one of my favorite scenes so far:

"So, thanks for dinner," I say, suddenly feeling like this is a really bad movie script, and Edward only further confirms that assessment when he says, "It was my pleasure." I roll my eyes at our joint lameness and he chuckles. "Yeah, okay, this is awkward."

"See? This is probably why that whole chivalry thing has gone the way of eight-track tapes and VCRs. You should have just slowed to a crawl at the foot of the driveway and I could have hopped out. I can duck-and-roll like a ninja."

"If memory serves, we used a VCR just last week," he points out, ignoring my joke entirely, and is treated to my second eye-roll for his trouble.

"And, if my memory serves, you weren't exactly adept at doing so, which further illustrates my point."

"Trust me when I tell you that I'm far more adept at this than I am at operating archaic technology."

When he blushes, the implication of his words hits me and I can't resist thebait. "Oh? And what exactly is 'this'?"

"Um. Well." He licks his lips, and I step closer; when he looks down into my face, his eyes are heated. "You know. Dating."

 "I see."

"Okay, that's a lie. I suck at dating."

I laugh, the flirty sexual tension eliminated entirely. "I don't know," I counter. "Ithink you're doing pretty well, actually."

 "Yeah?"

 I nod. "Yeah."

 "Okay," he breathes. "Cool."

I smile and bite my lip, inordinately pleased when his eyes go immediately to mymouth. "Hey, Edward?"

"Yeah?" His eyes are still on my mouth, and it's amazing how very seventeen I feelright now. Were this a different porch on a different street in this same tiny town, this could be the first-date kiss I missed out on a decade ago.

 "Wanna kiss me?"

 "Badly," he says.

Nope. Not gonna ruin it for ya. You’re just gonna have to read it yourself. By the way,my other favorite scene is a certain conversation they have in the diner about his...shall we say, experiences regarding creative sexual activities-slash foreplay that had me spitting out my water and laughing hysterically. I won’t post it here because again, it would just ruin too much, and I want you to RUN, not walk over to read it.

Now, most people know I’m a teacher. One of the aspects of this story I like the most (besides the obvious wonderful and true-to-life UST) is the school atmosphere and the camaraderie among the teachers. I found myself laughing at Bella’s colleagues as they down margaritas and nachos as they gossip about the student and teachers. Yes. We do that. We have lives. We have sex. We’re still awesome teachers. Same goes for the antics of the students; crushes on teachers, being pressured to be sexually active, boys being... well, BOYS. It’s all very entertaining to read.

The story is story is now complete and you're lucky because it definitely was one of those “put everything down to read” fics. And after reading most of TheFicChick’s stuff, I can safely rec just about everything else on her FFN profile. But read this one first. It will surely put a smile on your face... and you won’t lose any of your teeth from sugary sweets with no substance.
