Summary: Bella’s life implodes one fateful night, leaving her with nothing more than the directive to go to New York and find Edward Cullen. A trip across the country spins her life in an unexpected direction, opening her eyes to the hidden world of the Italian mafia. When things aren’t always as they seem, it can be difficult to separate friend from foe.

~Show me a man who has no enemies, and I’ll show you a man who has never stood for anything.~

When someone tells you that their life changed, they can usually pinpoint one moment, one choice, that would have made things go in a completely different direction. When it happens though, it isn’t like that. There is a catalyst but every moment from that point on can create so many different paths for your life to take. Maybe I should have made different choices, but I couldn’t bring myself to regret the decisions I’ve made.

I was twenty years old, taking a year off from college after getting my associate degree, trying to find myself and what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. This led to me moving back in with my parents. I was glad they now lived in Seattle instead of the small town of Forks, where I grew up. My mom was a school administrator and my dad was a cop, but he was offered a position as the Chief of Police in Seattle. Things had been going well over the last few months. I was working part-time. I was getting to spend time with my parents. But like all good things, they don't stay that way for long. I came home one evening from work and found myself in a nightmare.

The door was already standing slightly ajar, and the silence coming from within caused a pit to form in my stomach. My dad and mom were always happy and joyful. They were madly in love with each other, and though I was raised with rules and curfews, they still guided me with advice and affection throughout my life. There was always laughter, shouts of victory, or their mushy confessions of love to each other to gross me out. I stepped inside carefully, the instinct my dad instilled in me kicking into gear. I was quiet as I crept through my house. Regardless of the possible danger, I absolutely lost it when I saw my dad, lying on the floor in a puddle of his own blood. His eyes were glassy and lifeless, the warm light no longer burning there.

I fell to my knees beside his body, dropping my keys and feeling like a little girl again. “Daddy,” I said, knowing he wouldn’t answer.

“Bella,” a weak voice wailed from nearby. I scanned my surroundings and saw my mom, coming out of the kitchen, clutching her stomach, blood seeping between her fingers.

“Mom!” I rushed over to her, horror gripping me tight. “Oh, god, that doesn’t look good. We gotta get you to a hospital.”

“My beautiful girl. It’s too late.” She choked, her bloody hand coming up to caress my face. “I don’t have much time, so listen to me. Go stay on the rez with Billy and Jacob until everything is taken care of. Then get out of here. Go to New York and find Edward Cullen. Tell him who you are and who your parents are. He will make sure you are safe.”

Nemico Del Mio Nemico will begin posting soon so remember to put cullenlvr83 on alert.

Summary: The ocean gives, but it also takes away. Knowledge is the same. Because once you know, the opportunity for ignorance is over, and you can no longer outrun the truth. When a handsome stranger shows up at Bella’s bookstore, she can't overlook the guarded expression in his eyes. Soon, her predictable small-town life will be unrecognizable.

This all began with a simple post that looks like it came from Tumblr. It reads:

'Oh, to be the owner of a small bookshop on a cobblestone street with roses climbing the side of the building, where books are stacked about in piles and there's always coffee brewing and a sleepy dog lifts his head at the sound of the door's bell and thumps his tail against the hardwood.'

My Facebook group helped me flesh out the rest, suggesting the small fishing town of Port Townsend, Washington. A shy Edward reticent to make friends, who owns a black lab and has just moved to town. Add in a Bella who's smart and a bit sassy, with a black cat and a book store that always has a pot of coffee and a plate of snickerdoodles ready for her customers. Edward goes by Ward, a man with more than a few secrets who wants the sense of community Bella clearly enjoys, but is afraid to reach out and take it.

~ooOoo~

“As long as your dog doesn’t lift his leg on my books, he can come in.”

The feminine voice startled me, and I jerked my head in her direction. I wished I could have been witty in response, but instead I gaped. Deep chocolate brown hair pulled up under a red bandana, a black shirt under ripped overalls, red chucks, and a beguiling smile . . . that’s what greeted me in the doorway as I found my tongue.

“Well, he’s a she, and she’d never think to defile a book.”

“Then you’re both welcome inside.”

Tentatively, I stepped over the threshold. The cat bolted to the cash register, and I couldn't resist petting it. “What’s its name?”

“That’s Charlie. He welcomes everyone to Bookish."

Charlie gave me a headbutt and blinked inquisitive green eyes at me. It was impossible to resist his softness, so I didn't.

"What’s this girl’s name?”

“Heidi.” At her name, her butt dropped to the scuffed wooden floors, and she held out a paw.

“Isn't that a pretty trick, Heidi?” The woman squatted, shaking Heidi’s paw and rubbing her ears. “And you?”

Me? What about me? “Uh, my name’s Ward.”

“Nice to meet you, Ward. I’m Bella.”

My mouth watered, but it was definitely because of the scent of brewing coffee.

She stroked slender fingers along the cat's back, causing him to arch and purr. "Can I get you some coffee? Cookies?"

"I wasn't planning on staying." Fuck, her eyes were captivating. I saw the amusement, the openness. The ease with strangers necessary for her occupation.

"I won't force you to stay."

In Another Life
by
iambeagle

Summary: He’s someone else’s husband, and that alone should end all of my thoughts about Edward Cullen.

Snippet from chapter 3:

“So, that was awkward,” I say as I crawl into bed next to Jared.

He’s on his phone, responding to an email. “What was?” he asks, typing away.

I rub lotion on my arms. “Edward and Gianna arguing like that.”

“Oh. I guess.”

“You didn’t think so?” I push.

“I don’t know. I’m not trying to get in the middle of it,” Jared says absently.

“I’m not either. Just thought it was strange, is all. They don’t bicker like that in front of us.”

“Hm.”

I can tell he’s not listening, and he doesn’t want to talk about this anymore. I don’t even know why I want to dissect it, really. It’s not like it was a huge blow-up fight or anything, but still.

I know no marriage is perfect, but I never really got the vibe that Edward and Gianna had any problems whatsoever. Both are generally mild-mannered. They’re also not grotesquely affectionate with one another in public. They’re the type of easygoing couple who can fit in with anyone.

That’s not to say they blend in, though. They stand out. They’re both striking in their looks. Gianna, with her glossy dark hair, naturally tan skin, and slender figure. Edward with his… well, everything, I guess. His sharp jaw. His intense, green eyes. His hair is a wreck most days, but it works well. Doesn’t matter if he’s going to the store or attending an event, his hair is chaotic, but it’s him.

If I’m being honest, there’s been an attraction there since day one. I’d have to be blind to not admit that. The attraction for him doesn’t just stop at his looks, though. He’s dynamic. Funny. He’s rugged but in an understated way. He’s genuine and a talented author. A good father and a—

Loving husband.

He’s someone else’s husband, and that alone should end all of my thoughts about Edward.

But I’m human.

And Edward is too goddamn handsome for me not to notice.
