When Bella Swan flees to London to escape her painful and humiliating past she doesn't expect her charismatic new boss to be quite so interested in her secrets... AH. Britishward. Rated M for language and lemons. Twilight - Rated: M

Reviewed by: Born Onhalloween

Perhaps it’s the fact that Britishward’s language reminds us of a certain endearing young actor hailing from the same country. Or maybe it’s the fact that Britishward throws out words like ‘tosser’ and brews Bella tea when she’s upset. But I think not.

No, I rather think it has all to do with the fact that he says stuff like this: "Show me your room, Bella," he whispers brokenly. "Before I lose my mind completely and take you here in the hall." Um…

From the start of this story, Amber1983 draws us in to Bella’s haunted past with her estranged ex-husband Jake.

"You ran away," his gruff voice accused.

Well of course I did. It would take the strongest and bravest of people to stay in this town after what had happened between us, what everyone knew had happened, and I was definitely neither strong nor brave.

"I'm speaking to you." Anger crept into his voice and he grabbed my shoulder to turn me towards him, frustrated at my silence. His touch sent a shudder through me.

"What did you expect, Jake?" my voice was small and pathetic. Well, if the shoe fits.

His giant form towered above me and his eyes were as dark as the Washington sky above, with just the hint of an incoming storm.

"I expect my wife to HONOUR me!" he growled and it was suddenly as if the last six months hadn't even happened.

What is this Bella’s damage? That’s for her to know, and Britishward to attempt to ferret out after she’s assigned to the UK branch of the executive search firm to work for none other than Edward Cullen. He is none too pleased about the prospect of dealing with “some little upstart from the Head Office,” but Bella makes quite the first impression on her new boss:

Fuck. Me. Hard.

This isn't an expression usually found in my head whilst residing in Aro's office but, my God, it seems fairly appropriate right now. For a horrible moment I wonder if I muttered the words out loud, although perhaps that wouldn't be too much of a big deal as it is definitely a proposition I wouldn't mind offering Ms Isabella Swan…

She lifts her head to greet me and I can't help but notice the way she quickly rakes her eyes over me. In all honestly I'm certain I did the same.

A smirk sneaks onto my face almost entirely against my will and she blushes the most delicious shade of pink. I can't take my eyes off the way the colour spreads across her cheekbones, down her delicate neck and into the collar of her blue shirt. I want nothing more than to see how far down it goes.

Nobody has spoken so I feel a need to break the silence. I reach out my hand for her to shake and introduce myself. She continues to stare in silence for a beat too long and I'm torn between feeling flattered and uncomfortable.

Finally, she blushes further and puts her hand in mine, offering the smallest of shy smiles. Her hand is soft and slightly damp from nerves and it feels tiny in mine. I'm instantly overwhelmed by a need to wrap other parts of myself around her to keep her safe. Okay, that's a very weird fucking thought, Cullen, you perve.

Bella is wary of her new boss, whose reputation precedes him, and after one week, “three hours, and eight Cosmopolitans,” she finds out for herself just exactly how persuasive he can be. But cooler heads prevail, and things don’t end well on her stoop:

At once, I feel completely sober and a little sick. This is not what I came here for; I don't want this man to see me, to know me, to touch me. I don't want him to see into my soul and know my secrets, my shame. He has no place and no right.

Sudden anger courses through me. And this is Edward Cullen, for fuck's sake! Workaholic. Ladies' man. I bet he has bedded every PA they have ever given him!

"What do you think you're doing?" The volume of my voice in the silent, damp night makes us both jump.

"Nothing. I'm sorry. I didn't mean - I'm sorry." He stumbles and stutters and puts space between us. His green eyes are confused. Part of me feels sorry for my outburst and desperately wants to take it back and pull him back against my door.

But I don't. I crack instead.

"This is the usual method, is it?" I snarl. "Take your PA out, ply her with drink and make your move?"

I watch his face slowly harden.

"No." He almost growls.

"Oh really? Because that's not what I've heard."

Poor, misunderstood Edward. Well, sort of, and sort of not so much. Because up until Bella, he wasn’t really the nicest guy to women, and he knows it:

Of course someone as refined and adorable and fucking beautiful as Bella Swan would shy away from the office scoundrel, the moody bastard, the commitment-shy bachelor. And she is right, isn't she; I am all of those things. What was I really aiming for with that kiss on her neck - I did want to fuck her. And then what? Return to work, awkward and uncomfortable. There was certainly nothing else, I had nothing else to give and everyone at Volturi clearly knows that. Apparently, including Bella.

And here’s where the delicious push and pull of this story takes off. Edward becomes less of a scoundrel, and of course Bella finds his charms irresistible, but still, there’s something blocking her from letting go, and we’re just at the point in the story where Edward (and we) find out what it is. Though we don’t yet know if he can help her overcome what appears to be a major obstacle for her, we see that he will give it his best shot:

you told him everything and he's still here.

My heart is racing and as gently as I can I lay down next to him and prop my head on my hand to watch. I'm not ready for him to wake up yet. I'm not ready to face the day.

But God, he's beautiful; lying on his front with the sheet pulled down to the top of his boxers. My hand is itching to trace over the stunning expanse of muscle and smooth skin that is his back. His arms are folded above his head and his crazy hair is poking out in every direction. His face is turned towards me and the sight of his full lips reminds me of his kiss last night. Kisses that felt like nothing else I'd ever experienced. His mouth searching mine, the taste of his tongue, his hands - Jesus, his hands -

"Do I have something on my face?" He suddenly mumbles, eyes still closed.

"Shit!" I leap about a foot in the air and his throaty chuckle fills the room. He opens his eyes and stares at me, laughing.

"You're awake then?"

"Yep," he grins. "I tend to wake up when someone's eyes are burning a hole my face!"

I blush and he takes my hand to pull me back down beside him. I lie back willingly, facing him.

"I bet you're pretty used to waking up to women staring at you, huh?"

He shrugs, smirks. "Not really, I'm usually half way out the window," he teases.

I roll my eyes but then ask softly. "But not today?"

His smirk disappears and he pulls me closer.

"Nope, definitely not today."

Gah! Who wouldn’t want to wake up to that sight?!

This story is told with Amber’s lyrical voice and careful attention to dialect, and you will become addicted to hearing Britishward think and speak. Bella has a broken past but she’s no shrinking violet. The fun of this story is in watching the two of them bring out the best in each other. Separately and together, they’re a pair you’re going to want to know. And I didn’t even tell you about all the lovely side characters. Darn! Have I used up my allotted space already?

Unbecoming by BookishQua - rec'd by Katinki
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7772463/1/Unbecoming
In the aftermath of her divorce, a heartbroken Bella Swan looks for danger to give meaning to her life. If only her hot ex-husband would stay out of the picture. AH ExB.
Twilight - Rated M.

Reviewed by: Iambeagle

Unbecoming starts off with a bang. Literally.

It happens in the blink of an eye.

Well, if that opening line doesn’t intrigue the hell out of you, I don’t know what will. From the beginning of the story you’re immediately thrown into the action, heart beating along with Bella’s.

While devoting her time in Africa as an aid worker, Bella’s camp is invaded by rebel soldiers who scavenge for food and new recruits. In an act of bravery to save a young boy from being taken by one of the soldiers, Bella is set apart from her group, making her a target.

My shoulder burns and I'm jerked back, almost as if someone snuck up behind me and tied ropes around my torso and yanked when I didn't expect it. I hear screaming and wailing and more gunshots, this time from behind. My head is numb at first, then the pain is transmitted by my screaming nerve endings and I can barely move my body hurts so bad. I am sprawled face down on the barren ground.

Like I said, it starts off with a bang.

Using the earth as my pillow, I close my eyes and see his smiling face. It's our wedding day in my mind. He's so handsome standing there in his tux - his green eyes shining. He knows I'm nervous coming down the aisle, terrified to be in front of so many people. But I do it for him.

"Edward," I manage to whisper.

Upon reading the summary, you are well aware Bella and Edward are divorced. The fact that she is thinking about him as she loses consciousness is reason enough for you to ugly cry into your hands.

I had fled the continent to escape the pain he'd inflicted, and had done my best to disappear. Over the past months I had become used to not having him in my life, to that ache in my heart where our love used to reside.

The deep hurt Bella’s inner monologue conveys will make your own heart ache and your mind run wild with questions of why she and Edward are no longer together. Before you can curl into the fetal position on the forest floor while wearing your ugly coat, you are presented with a sliver of hope. Bella wakes up in the hospital and is informed that an annoyingly persistent doctor named Edward keeps insisting to see her. See? I didn’t lie. There is hope after all.

Bella can put on a good front and appear brave, sure, but when the heart monitor she’s attached to accelerates merely from the mention of Edward’s name, you know there’s no way she will be able to deny her lingering feelings for long. Their first encounter in the hospital will have you creepy smiling like a fool because you know they still care so deeply about one another.

Pale, unshaven, with his clothes rumpled, Edward looked like he hadn't slept in days. His typically neat hair stuck up every which way. His glasses had smudge marks on the lenses.
He had the shadow of a smile. "Glad to see you've decided to rejoin the living. You have a concussion, and your temperature is elevated." That weasel was reading my chart and trying to beguile me.

Using my coolest voice I said, "I'd like my hand back, please."

"Sure." He dropped it.

As if I were burned, I snatched it back.

You’ll quickly find yourself wanting to be this Bella’s friend because, underneath the pain and suffering she clearly feels, she’s brave, allowing herself to say what’s on her mind. In fact, questions about her new-found spunk are raised when Edward says:

"When did you become so argumentative? This isn't like you. We need another MRI about that head injury.”

Though Unbecoming is only a mere four chapters so far, you’re already given enough information regarding Edward and Bella’s past that you don’t feel like you’re in the dark. Not completely, anyway. The mystery revolving their divorce and a certain tragedy will have you begging for more, more, more. Before I give too much away, I will insist you read this story for yourself. I’ll even lend you my hand to hold and my shirt if you feel the need to blow your nose.

A Quiet Fire by Magnolia822-rec'd by Surething302

"But true love is a durable fire, In the mind ever burning, never sick, never old, never dead, From itself never turning." Ten years after a tragedy parted them, childhood friends Edward and Bella meet again. Can what was lost be recovered? E/B Some OOC  Twilight - Rated: M

You know that feeling you get, when you read the first chapter of a fic and you are all twisted inside needing more at that very moment. A Quiet Fire did exactly that to me, from the prologue until the very end, I could not read this fic fast enough. I felt so many emotions while reading this, love to hate and hate to love and everything in-between.
It starts with a prologue where Bella is running late for her first graduate class. She enters the class and takes her seat. A few minutes later, the door opens and Bella recognizes the man entering and passes out, but not before saying his name, Edward, aloud. She begins having this memory as she blacks out.

"Have you ever been kissed, Bella?"
I am shaking my head, blushing. He makes me nervous now in a way he never has before. He is only 15—soon to be 16—but he seems like so much more of a man to me, the two-year age gap between us expansive. I bite my lip and realize I'm still shaking my head.
He chuckles. "Would you like to be?"
I almost gasp . . . is Edward asking me . . . if he can kiss me? My throat is dry as I nod, the word struggling to make its way from my brain to my mouth. Yes. YES.
And when his lips meet mine it's nothing like how I thought it would be. His mouth is soft and gentle; he brings his hand to my face and cups my cheek softly. It is brief but when he pulls away I am left with a strange sensation, a longing that I've never felt before. Almost without volition, I touch my finger to his lips. Mine tingle.
"I wanted to be your first," he says, smiling as he kisses the tip of my finger.
"Me too." The words finally come and I know they're true.

Do you see why, I was all kinds of twisted and wanting more? I am so glad this fic was complete when I picked it up to read. The first chapter starts with Alice and Bella playing dress up in Esme’s, Alice’s mom, clothes and this is one of my favorite moments in the story:

The dress didn't have a zipper, and Alice lifted it over my head as she giggled.
"What's so funny?" I asked her.
"Bella . . . I think you're getting boobs!"
"What?" I was shocked, looking down at my chest. There were two small lumps there—I hadn't really noticed them before. But they weren't that big. Still, they were bigger than Alice's. She lifted her shirt to show me. We looked at ourselves in the mirror. Yes, there was definitely something there. Alice poked one and I flinched.
"See? Boobs! I'm so jealous. I can't wait till I get mine. You're so LUCKY! Now you can wear bras!"

For the next five or six chapters we get to follow Alice, Edward, and Bella through their childhood. Alice is the youngest of the three and is Edwards little sister. Edward is the oldest, leaving Bella in between to two sibling friends. Bella and Alice become best friends quickly.

As we read on, we learn that Edward and Bella are becoming close. Edward starts sneaking out to go see Bella at night, mind you, they are only like 10 and 13. Bella begins telling Edward about her mother. Renee, Bella’s mom, has bipolar and has episodes. This continues throughout middle school, where Bella and Edward start dating, and on into high school. During these years, Renee is sent to different hospitals for her mental condition and the Cullens take Bella in while her mother is gone.

There is one night that Bella and her mom argue, Bella leaves and returns home going to bed only to be awakened to her house on fire. She tries to save her mom but the fire is to bad and she passes out from smoke ventilation. Renee dies and Bella is burned severely. She is sent to live with Billy Black, a life long friend of the Swans. Over the years Bella writes to Alice and Edward but never hears anything from them, that is until Edward walks into her class room ten years later. Talk about over load, I was going crazy during all of this. I wanted to punch so many people because I had no clue what the hell was going on.

We get back to present day and here is part of the second conversation Bella and Edward have.

"Bella?" No one calls me by my nickname anymore, but said in Edward's voice, it's so familiar I stop dead in my tracks.
Oh shit.
"Running away from me again?"
I turn around and face him. He's just about two feet from me, standing with his arms crossed, and I can't believe how tall he is; I'm only eye level with his chest. I cross my arms and take a step backward. I won't let him intimidate me.
"I'm not running away."
"Oh really?"
"I saw you were talking with Peggy, and I had to go. I have somewhere to be," I lie. Edward's eyes dart down to my left hand and this time it occurs to me what he's looking at—my simple gold engagement ring. His jaw clenches.
"Well, don't let me keep you from your...obligations," he says, stressing the last word. "But, if we're supposed to work together on this project, we'll have to get in touch somehow. I need to do well in this class."
"So do I," I huff. "What are you doing here, anyway?"
He looks at me incredulously. "Me? What are you doing here?"
"I'm obviously in graduate school, Edward. I came here to work with Peggy, and anyway, it's none of your business."
"That much is clear," he mutters, shifting on his feet and looking across the street before turning back to me. "But it's a little weird you end up here, in Chicago, in my class, isn't it?"
"What are you saying? That I planned this? Incredible!" I turn on my heel but Edward reaches out and grabs my shoulder. Shrugging him off, I back away again.
"Why did you pretend you didn't know me last week?"
His direct question catches me off guard and I'm at a loss for a second. "Because it's easier. And I don't want people to know...okay? I don't want people to know about my past."
"But you fainted..."
"It was the heat," I snap, trying to ignore the sharp cut of his jaw as he clenches it again.
"Are you sure about that?" The corner of his mouth turns up in a little smirk.
"Yes, I'm sure."
"Okay. Fine." His tone is dismissive and I'm relieved he's not pursuing this line of inquiry anymore.
Just then, Edward's eyes focus behind me, and he gives a small wave. I turn my head as a tall, thin, blonde girl approaches. Her hair is closely cropped and she's wearing tight black jeans, converse, and a red Killers t-shirt.

Things don’t look so well with them, but fate has different plans and the professor pairs them off for a project. Through this they start to form a new friendship and they start learning things, they didn’t know, like all the letters they wrote to each other over the years, but never received. Oh, and did I mention Bella is engaged to Jacob Black? Yeah, there are so many twists to this fic from the very beginning. If you are looking for a fic that will make you laugh, cry, and fill your heart with happiness and joy, then join Bella, Edward and Alice in A Quiet Fire. You will not be disappointed.

Teacher of the Year by Diamondheart78-rec'd by Jaime Arkin

When Bella has a chance encounter with a sexy stranger, she never believes she'll see him again. Fate however, has a sense of humor. AH/ExB  Twilight - Rated: M

Review by: JO FICFREAK :)

Hi, my name is Jo.

I like fic.

I like fic with a good plot, deep characters and yeah, maybe some angst along the way.

That’s right, I said it.  I like a little drama between my Bellas and Edwards just as much as the next chica.

HOWEVER.  Funny is always my go to, it seems.  And I mean that as in, I still like fic with a good plot and deep characters – but after crying my eyes out over some of best written stuff out there… I also like to find good plots and deep characters in the humor genre… I like to read about a Bella and Edward who have somewhat of a sense of humor.  Ya know what I mean?   Because life isn’t one hundred percent of the time over the top depressing, that’s all I’m sayin’.

I need a little fluff N stuff to balance out the heart wrenching tear jerkers, in other words.

And this, my friends, is why I love DiamondHeart78’s fic, “Teacher of the Year”.

She takes a situation that could obviously have just as easily been angsty and made it into one of the funniest, sweetest story lines I’ve read in a while.

My take: Bella moves back to town with her son (Garrett) after getting up and getting out of a very messy “relationship”.  Soon thereafter, she goes out with her girls and gets drunk off her ass at the local bar (grandma's watching Garrett, don't worry).  She meets a guy.  She drools over said guy.  She proceeds to make out with him.  And oh yeah, he is one seriously, sexy Edward but alas, in due time of this hot and steamy make out session with the guy she thought she'd never in a million years meet... she's pulled away from him abruptly... time to go, says Alice (grrrr) – and hence, Bella was never afforded the chance to give him her number… or get his.

"You're fucking beautiful." My eyes roll back. His voice is sex.

"So are you," I respond, mirroring his action and feeling his hand snake its way around my waist, gripping tight. He's on the verge of unleashing something.

Unleash away, Edward. Unleash away.

She is just getting to where she is pretty much accepting the fact that she won’t ever see Mr. Perfectly Sexy, Excellent Kisser again when she takes her son to his first day of Kindergarten… and meets his new teacher… who’s none other than Mr. Perfectly Sexy, Excellent Kisser, Edward Cullen!  Who. Wears. Glasses. (did I mention that?) -  He's like Clark Kent.  Responsible, fun loving teacher by day...  Ridiculously sexy, funny, hot, man of Bella's dreams by night.

"Hi. I'm Mr. Cullen. You must be Garrett's mom, I'm pleased to meet y…"

And there it is. I turn just in time to meet his glance.

He's frozen. I'm frozen. There's a bouncing five-year-old holding my hand. I slowly lift my other hand to offer a tiny wave.

"Hi."

The situation they are in is so freaking cute and funny and sexy and funny and adorable and not to mention their kids are FANTASTIC.

Oh, and Lauren plays a pretty funny role in this one too.  You will love to hate this woman.

"Mr. Cullen?"

"Here we go," Angela mutters under her breath, which makes me stop to look up.
Edward turns to Lauren who practically skips towards him, plastic boobs unmoving. No bounce to them. Do men actually like tits that don't move? I guess if they're that big they could give a shit.

"Yes, Ms. Mallory?"

"I just wanted to let you know," she says all breathy and stuff, stepping closer until her hand lingers on his chest, her fake nails, airbrushed with unicorns, contrasted against his shirt.

And what is that smell? Is that her perfume? I think my nose just died.

"I'm available for room mom duties... whenever you need me." She says the last line puckering her glossy lips, eyelashes aflutter.

Cue eye roll.

You won’t regret this one.  I promise.  Diamond is a pretty great lady, to boot, so get on over there and give it a go, leave her some love and then send me Edward wrapped up all pretty like with a bow (or ten) over top of his gorgeous… well, you get the picture, as a small token of your thanks.

Elemental by Tallulahbelle-rec'd by JudasManifesto

AU/AH: When the Swans return to their birthplace, Bella learns she is no ordinary teenager, and Forks is no ordinary town. Can she fulfill her destiny with the powerful Edward Cullen, or will the dark forces that threaten their families destroy them all? Twilight - Rated: M

Reviewed by: Dreamweaver94

If you’re anything like me, the Harry Potter series is the only set of books you’ve ever read about magic and if it weren’t for Bruce Willis in “The 5th Element” you’d have no idea the four earthly elements are Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. What I liked about the story Elemental is how TallulahBelle paints you a picture of her world of witches and the supernatural so well you don’t have to know anything about this genre to enjoy it. If this story has been sitting on your “To Be Read” list forever, I encourage you to step outside your fic box and give it a try.
Bella grows up in Phoenix with her mom and dad completely unaware that her destiny lies in the enchanted forests of Forks or that her parents are two powerful witches.  Shortly before her 18th birthday her family must return to where they once called home without much notice or explanation – at least none that anyone shares with her.  She unknowingly ties herself to the land her ancestors pledged to protect without even understanding what she is or where she came from.
“That was more than a greeting. It was Earth magic. Very powerful Earth magic and it was accepted, acknowledging the promise from the Swan family.”
“Magic? Let me guess we’re Witches,” I said sarcastically.
“Yes, we are,” A soft reply came from the doorway behind me.
Bella is quickly introduced to an extended family she knows nothing about. There are 12 families in addition to the Swans that make up a coven pledged to protect and oversee the area. After a less than chilly reception from these families, Bella is left wondering why her parents uprooted their lives and bothered to return in the first place.  Though her parents are reluctant to share the history and the secrets of Forks, Bella soon learns more than she bargained for from her new friends at school.
TallulahBelle adopts some interesting twists on canon to create her world. The most fascinating of which is her use of imprinting and the bond it forms between mated couples. Bella is shocked to learn that upon her 18th birthday this phenomenon could and most likely would be her fate. The ritual that follows imprinting may be one of the most unique and intense encounters ever conceived in fan fiction. My opinion of this imprinting is that it’s powerful and fascinating and I commend TallulahBelle for coming up with such a vivid and memorable scene.
When Bella realizes how much of an adult role she will be expected to take on after her birthday, the normal concerns of a teenager are quickly forgotten. As her own powers become more evident and her natural ability shows itself to the rest of the coven, speculation about whom she could imprint with begins.
"…she's his match in skill and power," Principal Weber replied to something that Mrs. Crowley was saying. It brought me out of my musings as I had heard my name mentioned in conjunction with what Principal Weber was telling her.
"I know it's never a good thing to assume a mating, but I doubt there is another who could balance Edward, like the Swan girl," Mrs. Crowley replied.
Bella is quite overwhelmed by this new world she is thrown into, but when it comes to Edward, although she can’t deny his good looks, she’s underwhelmed by his attitude, aloofness, and the superiority complex he carries about. She finds herself at odds with him after several encounters and plans to ignore him just as thoroughly as he ignores her. This story shows us the journey that Bella must take to create a relationship with someone she hardly knows and doesn’t particularly like.
Just as Bella starts to accept her new life, she learns it could all be destroyed. A dark force is headed toward Forks with the potential to decimate the land and kill the entire coven. All 13 families will have to find a way to come together and put their differences and disputes, both new and old, aside in order to fight this evil.
Bella has lost her trust in nearly everyone that was close to her. She was deceived by her parents, looked down upon by some of her new peers and envied by the members of the coven who are jealous of her power her natural ability. She learns that Edward is not quite the cocky, rude boy she thought him to be. The development of a trusting and unique relationship between these two virtual strangers is enjoyable to watch unfold. Although she struggles with the relationship she has with Edward, her dreams are a little more honest about the feelings that they fight against.
A subtle breeze caressed my cheek and lovingly swirled around my prone body. It gently played with the hem of my skirt and the unbound locks of my hair like a small child might as it discovered new textures of the world around them. The light wind danced with joy along my body and brought with it the scents of growing grass, blooming flowers, running water, and the amber-warmth of the radiant sun that resided somewhere high above me.
I held as still as possible, letting myself be adored by the breeze with its rhythmical movements. It brought me gifts of scent after scent as if it were a devoted suitor that vied for my hand; becoming bolder and bolder as diaphanous perfumes turned into heady aromas with firm strokes that dipped and swirled across my body, inciting feelings that I had long ignored.
Wave after wave of sugared wings fluttered in my lower belly, fanning a heat so powerful that I arched further into the feathered touches.
The breeze suddenly changed direction and floated briefly near my ear, sighing:
"Belllaaa…"
This fantasy world created by TallulahBelle could easily stand alone outside of the twilight world. Even if fantasy or supernatural or sci-fi isn’t your normal cup of tea, I encourage you to give this story a try because it’s gripping and beautiful and worthy of your time.

Every year Bella waits for the 'Pay Checks' to roll into her sleepy river town and every year Edward's hers, just for the summer. AH, AU, OOC, B/E  Twilight - Rated: M

Reviewed by: Vampshavelaws

For the Summer is one of those stories that instantly reels you in. I remember becoming hooked after the very first chapter, the writing and premise and characters a winning combination.

Bella and Edward’s relationship spans over seventeen years; seventeen summers of ups and downs and everything in between.

They meet for the very first time at her father’s marina. Bella is eleven, feeding fish, and has no concept of boys.

"Hey you! Girl! I wanna try," I hear this kid say, and I look around, wondering who he could be speaking so rudely to. The sun is glaring in my eyes and I squint as I try to make out the shadowed boy before me. He shifts slightly to the left, his head now blocking out the sun, and his face comes into view.

He is glowing. The golden sun behind his head is causing his reddish brown hair to blaze like fire. He is my age, I think, maybe a little older, and his mouth is very red, like he just finished a rainbow sherbet Push-Up or something. His teeth and tongue are tinted pink with sticky syrup collected in the corners of his mouth. His green eyes look like they are shimmering from the reflection of the water, and he has the longest eyelashes I've ever seen, like feathers, and I wonder if they are as soft as they look.

He is an out-of-towner, a Pay Check, I'm sure. It's obvious in his pale, flawless skin. His thin legs are interrupted by knobby knees sticking out from under his blue swim trunks, and there's a little alligator stitched into his white polo shirt. On his feet are brand new leather deck shoes, ones I could only dream of affording. I look down at my old sandals, the straps rubbing blisters into my skin. I always have to stop walking to shake the sharp rocks and gravel out from under my feet.

"I have a name," I respond, slightly annoyed with his tone.

"Well, how am I supposed to know your name? I only just met you," he says, placing his hands on his hips.

"We haven't even really met. Technically, I'm not even supposed to be talking to you," I say as I stand up. I'm taller than him and I suddenly feel very confident. I smirk down at the pretty pale boy, his weird fiery hair still catching my attention, and throw him the bag of bread. "Here, you can have it. I'm done here anyway. Make sure you throw the bag in the trash can when you're through."

I start to walk back to the office to see if my father needs any help, but the boy grabs my swimsuit strap from behind and the elastic snaps against my back with a sting. I spin around ready to knock him out, but he is just standing there grinning. And then he winks. My mouth drops open, his stupid smile making me even more furious. What a jerk!

I don't even know what to do. My normal response would be to punch his lights out. That's what I learned growing up with an older brother, if anyone touches you, you punch them. My brother made sure I knew how to throw a decent punch, and this kid is so scrawny, I could totally take him.

Something about his smile makes me freeze up and forget what I'm supposed to do. I can't even think of anything to say and I suddenly feel like an idiot.

Just then, a magnificently beautiful lady calls out and we both turn and look at her. Her skin is like silk and her golden brown hair is perfectly feathered. She wears a very skimpy black bikini with little red running shorts with white trim that stands out against her slender tanned legs. I'm a little embarrassed at how I stare at her perfect body, but then I figure she wouldn't dress like that if she didn't want to be stared at. She opens her mouth and her beauty quickly fades with what she says.

"Eddie! Get your fucking ass over here! I told you not to go running off, you little shit."It's not really her words that are offensive, living on the marina I hear language worse than that out of my own father's mouth, but her voice is just so full of hatred. The boy's smile fades and he runs back to her with his head hanging. She looks really young, but I guess she's his mother because she pulls his hair and jerks him around as he stumbles onto one of the houseboats tied to the dock.

I turn quickly and march straight to my dad's office, the tears burning in my eyes as I think of how I was ready to knock that kid out. No wonder he was so rude, his mom is horrible! I regret wanting to punch him but I refuse to let my tears fall. No, I will not shed tears over some silly summer Pay Checks.

Camoozle captures the voice of eleven year old Bella perfectly—the attention to detail and overall tone still amazes me.

A fast friendship soon builds between the two of them, one that will have you smiling and feeling that sense of dread in the pit of your stomach.

The night before Edward leaves, we have ice cream on the swings again. I know he's leaving because his campground is clear of the usual debris. All the towels, shoes, and ice chests are all packed up, and the awning is rolled back and hooked into place. Only the motorhome sits in the spot now. We silently sway on the swings, and the air smells different. The air is heavy and my t-shirt sticks to my skin. It's August, storm season, and the sky is dotted with high clouds that billow and bow. Edward doesn't speak of it and neither do I. He hasn't really told me he's leaving but he knows that he doesn't have to. I've seen it all before.

"I'll get him to come back next year," he says eventually. "I'll make him." He speaks in a confident tone and I have to admit I feel hopeful for an instant, but then I remember that a year is a really long time. Things change. People do too.

"Maybe we can go to Laughlin for the Fourth of July. Next year, we'll go see a big fireworks show," I say half-heartedly, wanting it to be true so bad but knowing there's only a slim chance.

"I made you a birthday present," Edward says, and I look up at his face now. His cheeks are pink from the sun and the skin on his nose is peeling. "I know it's not until next month, but I wanted to give you something. So you can remember me."

My heart feels big in my chest, like it takes up too much space, and I feel my eyes start to burn, but I can't cry in front of Edward. Instead, I look down at the shell he holds in his hand. It's small and white and ridged, and he holds it out to me, flat in his palm.

I recognize this shell. He found it while we were hiking last week and he wondered why a seashell would be found so high up on the hill. He said it must be special and shoved it into his pocket with the black glassy rock and the piece of wood that looked like an eye. Edward likes to collect special things.

I carefully take it from his hand and turn it over in my fingers. On the inside, where the surface is smooth, clearly printed in tiny neat writing are the letters: B & E 1983. I close my hand over the shell so I can't see the black letters anymore because if I look at them again, I will cry.

I sleep with the shell enclosed in my fist that night.

Emmett and I watch Dr. Cullen unhook his motorhome from the site as we sit on the swing set. He eats a popsicle beside me while mine melts in my hand, the sticky liquid dripping onto the dirt. My insides feel like they're sloshing around in my belly and I fight back the tears that are filling my eyes because I don't want my brother to call me a big baby.

Once they have everything sealed inside, I start to panic, worrying that I'll never see him again and I'll lose my friend forever. I can see him in the back of the trailer as they pull away, and my heart drops. He's waving, though, so I wave back as the tears slip down my cheeks. I quickly wipe them away before Emmett can see, but it's too late.

"Get used to it, sis," Emmett says quietly. "Summer friends don't mean shit."

Oh, how Emmett couldn’t have been more wrong.

Edward becomes the highlight of Bella’s year, and vice versa, their connection only becoming stronger with each summer that passes. And soon that friendship turns into something else; turns into something more than either of them could have ever imagined.

"Oh God, you're just…" Edward says in a hushed voice as his hands wrap around my hips, the tips of his fingers pressed into my skin and I sigh at the contact. He guides his hands up my belly and over my ribs, his palms pressing roughly into my breasts and I gasp as he rolls his thumbs over my nipples. His hands smooth down my back and over my bare ass, his fingers hooked in the elastic of the underwear and he slides them down my legs. His eyes roam every inch of my body, needy, wanting eyes as he guides my hips to straddle his lap, and I can feel him hard beneath me. I rock against his length, my hands guiding his shirt over his head and then everything just starts going so fast.

I hear a series of loud blasts and pops and Edward kisses me, a rough, hungry kiss that consumes me. His fingers push into me and I gasp in shock, not ready for the penetration. He pumps his fingers into me over and over and the sensation is intense, the stretching of skin, the pulling of the hair there and I feel building pressure deep between my legs, almost like I have to pee and it's too much, too fast. So I try to slow things down.

I run my hands over his chest and I bring his mouth to mine, rolling my tongue with his and sucking at his lip and this feels better. I grind myself onto his hand, his thumb rubbing everywhere and the pressure mounts again, his hand moving faster and faster and I tremble against him. His mouth leaves mine and travels down my neck and he squeezes my breast in his hand, his tongue licking and sucking at the rosy, tightened flesh. I moan loudly against his forehead, my hands pulling through his long hair. Suddenly, Edward stands up, his hands gripping my behind as he lays me on the bed. He hovers over me and I slide down his boxers as he settles between my legs and I can feel his hard shaft against the inside of my thigh. I want him inside me and I writhe my hips against him so that he'll know it's okay, that I surrender to him, that I don't want to fight him anymore. His eyes gaze into mine, his hands push the hair from my face and he kisses my cheeks, my eyelids, my shoulder.

Edward cradles my head in his hands, his eyes worried and I see it there, pain and sadness and I see him hesitating so I wrap my legs around his waist, holding me to him.

They live two different worlds, miles of land and ocean between them. How can anything possibly work out?

I’ll let you find that one out for yourself.

This story is one of my absolute favourites. I was addicted while reading; completely spoiled by weekly updates.

It contains a little bit of everything: angst, romance, humour, friendship. To me, this fic is perfect.

I can in no way do this story justice, so find some time in your day, and fall of love with the words on offer.

You won’t regret it.

Some things you never forget, they just hurt too much to remember.

Whenever I see an alert from Windchymes show up in my inbox I literally make a happy face and start clapping.  Windchymes has consistently written AU stories that take the framework of Twilight and twist them to a new direction.  I have appreciated her Bellas that have a strength and determination to withstand conflict and communicate what they want.  Her Edwards are loving and caring.

When The Keepsake arrived I rapidly clicked over excited to begin a new journey.  As the story opens, we find Bella newly arrived and unpacking her boxes in her apartment at University.  Her pal, Jake is there to lend a hand.  While going through her books she discovers her well-worn copy of Wuthering Heights and pages fall to the floor.
But before I put it in the rubbish I shake it out gently over the floor.
"What are you doing?" Jake asks.
"I had a bookmark I really liked but I lost it ages ago. I'm just checking for it before I throw the book away."
Jake looks towards the shelves where the other books sit. "What's it look like?"
"A leather strip with Celtic patterns on it."
The book yields nothing except another couple of loose pages.
"Where's the last place you saw it?" He stands and walks to the shelves.
"Can't remember. It was before..." I stop for a second. "It was in junior year."

Bella settles into her routine of being a student and stops off at the campus library.  As she is leaving one night she makes a most interesting discovery.

...my attention is drawn to the carpet and I stop.
My bookmark is lying on the floor.
I stare at it for a moment, knowing it can't really be mine. There are probably hundreds like it.
I bend and pick up the strip of tan leather with its Celtic patterns of black dye. Some of the black is missing from the border around the edges, just like mine. Bewildered and confused I look absently at my bag. Had it been in there all along, only to fall out now? I shake my head, no; I've only had this bag since Christmas. I decide the bookmark probably isn't mine. I turn it over and in the bottom corner see the tiny, faded single letter drawn in pen...B
...
I hurry to the desk and she processes my loan. I shove the book in my bag and head out the door. It's almost dark outside, the lights from the building blaze brightly and I stand under them, still staring at the bookmark as it lays across my palm, still trying to find a reason, an explanation...that elusive anything.
...
Suddenly, the hair on the back of my neck stands up. My skin pebbles in goosebumps and my body is alert. In the silence around me I hear the echo of footsteps and look up. I watch the figure come out of the gloom and as he comes down the path, before I can see his face clearly I know...it's in the set of his shoulders and the tilt of his head. And the way he walks...
It's Edward Cullen.

After three years of being apart, Bella sees Edward again for the first time.  She is completely dumbfounded to realize that he has no remembrance of her. It isn’t long after returning to her apartment that Bella receives some very unexpected visitors who carry some incredibly startling information.

Carlisle puts a careful, calming hand on my upper arm and I stop. His voice is gentle but firm when he speaks.
"Bella, Edward has gone to enormous trouble to block out something incredibly painful, and I believe he's done this purely to survive. So, he needs to remember in his own time, when his subconscious believes he's ready to handle it, and not before. Obviously I can't tell you what to do, but if you speak with Edward again I must stress that it would be better if you didn't tell him you have a shared past, or what has happened between you. It could do him a lot more harm than good."

Just as defeat and desolation begin to wash over me, a tiny spark of light comes through the gloom – a small beacon of hope.
"He came back for my bookmark," I say softly, sitting up straight and lifting my eyes to look at Carlisle, then Alice. "That must mean something, mustn't it?"
Carlisle smiles, surprise in his eyes, and Alice grins.
"In that case," Carlisle smiles wider, "I suggest you let nature take its course."

And so it begins, a new dance of discovery between Edward & Bella.  But in The Keepsake, Bella is the one with the answers and the knowledge of what has been.  She walks the fine line of engaging Edward at his pace and revealing herself to him as if they had never been together before.  Edward finds himself being intrigued by Bella’s difference from the other students.  As he reflects upon his actions we learn,

He had gone back to school and watched her from a distance, determined to discover that she was actually boring and dull and not the silver lining to his constant cloud cover. But he had discovered just the opposite. She was different. And she was special...to him. He realised that the first time he saw her stumble over a tree root and his hands shot out reflexively to catch her, even though he was on the other side of the campus lawn. And the realisation was compounded when he heard her laughing with some other students in the corridors of the history department. The sweet sound warmed him like nothing else, he'd found himself wanting to know what she found so funny.
But sometimes she looked sad, he thought. His vampire eyes would see expressions in her eyes and on her face that he didn't understand...but he wanted to understand, and that confused him as much as anything else.

I’m so excited to see Edward’s journey of re-discovery and how his actions will change with his new experiences behind him.  How will his concern and curiosity about her emerge into love?  What will their new experiences together bring them?  Without a doubt, I’ll be devouring every word and golden moment that Windchymes gifts us with.

"I kind of wish I were dead."

This is the opening line to iambeagle’s story, The Shadow that Remains. How can you not  keep reading when this is how it begins?

"That's an intriguing way to start a conversation," Charlotte mused, snickering at my tendency to be overly dramatic. "What happened this time?"

"Nothing happened. I just decided I cannot go to your birthday dinner tonight," I explained, trying my hardest not to slur. She would be less forgiving if she noticed the slur. The line was silent and I was secretly pleased thinking the call had been dropped until I heard her speak.

"Bella. You're drunk," she accused, lowering her voice.

Yes, Bella’s drunk and sitting alone in a bar. She’s trying to avoid seeing Charlotte’s brother, Edward—who it seems is her former boyfriend—and who Charlotte has sent to pick up her up.

"So, as if this weren't nice and awkward enough, I'm supposed to drive you to Charlotte's birthday dinner," he explained, pulling out his wallet and handing Embry his credit card.

"Wait, what?" I shook my head. "Charlotte sent you to pick me up?"

"Hi." He waved with a small smile. "Apparently everyone is already at the restaurant and I drew the short straw."

Edward gets Bella to his car; they start out to the restaurant and get into a car accident.

Darkness.

I was enveloped in darkness and everything seemed to keep happening in waves. Each time I would try to focus, a dull throb would take over and then magically disappear. I fought against the urge to get pulled back under, but the current was so strong. Once again, the darkness found its way back and I drowned in it.

Bella wakes up in the hospital, after being unconscious for three days, to find Edward at her bedside.

Edward took a deep breath and glanced away before looking back at me. "There was an accident," he said evenly. "Bella. I'm so-" He stopped speaking when his voice broke. Clearing his throat, he tried again, his voice somehow softer than before. "I'm so sorry."

Without giving too much away, Bella has lost two years of memories, but it’s not just memories Bella has lost in that time.

This story is just six chapters in, but already we can sense the deep relationships between the characters. There is so much to learn about the past two years, and iambeagle is unfolding the intriguing backstory in such a way that we are reliving the memories right along with Bella.

Jump in and start reading! iambeagle updates frequently, so we don’t have to wait long between updates while we… I mean Bella pieces together her past.

All her life, Bella Swan saw things before they happened, until him. He was her blind spot. How do you stay out of someone's life when you see it flashing before your eyes on a daily basis? AH,BxE  Twilight - Rated: M

Reviewed by: vampshavelaws

I’d been meaning to read the lovely Jo’s stories for ages (my TBR list is almost the same length as The Great Wall of China... give or take a few miles).

I was on twitter—I don’t know, probably stalking someone or something—and saw she’d posted a teaser for an upcoming story on her blog. I read it, got a little flail-y, and marked that baby down in my calendar, moving it to the top of my list.

And boy was I glad I did.

Blind Spot starts off in Bella’s point of view, giving us a glimpse of the reoccurring dream she’s been having. Or as I like to call it, the best way to wake up ever.

My eyes were damp when I awoke, my hand grasping at the hot spot between my legs where I'd just cum harder for an imaginary man than for any real live person I'd ever afforded the opportunity and as consciousness crept back, I reminded myself that it was just a dream.

I breathed in and out. Or tried to, at least, as I rolled over, peering out of my bedroom window at the morning as it peeked through the trees. Just like every other time I'd had the dream, I attempted to recollect the details, but it was useless.

I'd been having the damned thing off and on for weeks. Every time he'd haunt me, I'd wake up with my fingers completing the actions he committed inside my mind and every morning I tried to envision him, to remember him. Anything about him.

I could never really make out his face, though, only his voice. Sort of. What I'd imagined it sounded like that is, and just thinking of in the conscious world made me shiver underneath the covers.

Bella isn’t your average girl next door. She has a gift. One that is both a blessing and a curse.

Gift.

Such an inspiring word, right? Not so much for me. It was more like a trepidation of sorts, in my opinion. One that had made my life somewhat of a living hell from time to time.

My grandmother had told me ever since I was very young that I had this ability. That I could see things and know things that others couldn't or didn't want to, rather. That was how I always looked at it, anyway. She said I would have to decipher for myself when it was a good time to share what it decided to show me and when I should hold back and just let things happen.

Sometimes I had a hard time figuring out when to do what, still. Even at the ripe old age of twenty-eight, I was still struggling with it all.

And it never worked the way you'd think it would.

Always at the most inopportune times, never when it was desperately needed. And always… always cryptic… always open to interpretation.

Not to mention that because of this gift, there were officially two types of people in town when it came to opinions about me. There were the people who took what I said to them, if I decided to say something to them, very seriously and yet very quietly, and then there were the people who basically… thought I was nuts.

Thanks for the gift, mom.

I typically tried to keep it all at bay most of the time, but sometimes… sometimes I would see something so vividly about someone that it just wouldn't be ignored. That was when I would seek the person out and give them what information I could. At that point, it was really up to them what they did with it.

Needless to say, this makes it hard for Bella to keep friends, to meet anyone new; so when she accidentally bumps into a handsome stranger after work one evening—one that needs help finding a place to stay—she’s more than ready to help.

Demetri’s cute, smart, polite, and best of all, he knows nothing about her. Surely this makes him perfect for Bella?

As I drove, peeking up at my rear view mirror every once in a while to make sure he was still behind me, I wondered who this new guy was, where he was from... I thought about how extremely nice he seemed, how refined and just… completely datable, I decided. Temporarily, but whatever. Then I became curious as I slowly made my way down the dirt… well, muddied at the moment, road up to the old boat house's dock and put the Beetle into park, noticing another car parked next to Emmett's place.

Another car that didn't belong there.

Another car that probably belonged to a squatter or… worse yet, some low life thief, trying to break into Emmett's place and trash it or something.

I got out of my car and waved for Demetri to stay back while I picked up a old piece of wood and headed up toward the dock that would take me directly out to the back entrance to the house, slowly and carefully.

The small one-story shanty of a home didn't look like much to a lot of people, but to Emmett, it held a lot of fond memories and I'd be damned if I was going to let some jerk ruin his things.

As I crept along the board walkway, the owner of that strange car came into view and I caught my breath a little when I saw him. He was just… standing there with his back to me, looking out onto the old Tchefuncte River that led out to Lake Pontchartrain. His thick, dark hair was a mess, his clothes were in complete disarray, and his hands were stuffed into his pockets as he stood, feet apart like a soldier at ease.

If he hadn't been a burglar, he might have even seemed... almost... sexy… from the back, anyway.

I couldn't help but let my guard down for a minute as I watched him. He appeared to be pondering something as he stared out over the water. I wanted to peek around at the expression on his face to see if it reflected what I was feeling in that moment but then I remembered why he was there.

Probably wondering how quickly he can get down the river and over to New Orleans from here.

Most lowlifes used the winding rivers by Madisonville and the surrounding towns as a convenient waterway escape after conducting who knows what kinds of illegal business over in New Orleans.

I drew closer and lifted the two-by-four over my head, ready to knock him out and then call 911, when I stepped on a creaky board and stopped, frozen in time as the man swirled around. He took one look at me and his eyebrows knitted together into a scowl as though he was angry with me for interrupting his thoughts of thievery and ransacking.

"What the hell?" he muttered.

Enter Edward.

Our favourite green-eyed, heart-stopper.

We find out a little about his past in chapter two, one that instantly breaks your heart. He seems so broken, a history that has yet to be fully disclosed weighing him down, shrouding him in pain and guilt.

"We both know I'm not coming back."

After a few moments of thoughtful silence, he twisted his mouth and let out a sigh. "Do you know where you're going? I can write a recommendation for you."

"No need," I told him, catching a glimpse of my fellow officers mulling around the bullpen area just outside his office. Probably getting some new case to work on, to sink their teeth into. Something I didn't share their passion for anymore. Something I was repeatedly failing at because of that lack of passion.

It was the most recent of those failures that had made things so apparent to me. I'd ignored the obvious, looked past things that should have stood out like a sore thumb, and because of my mistakes, a little girl died unnecessarily.

Just as the thought crossed my mind, Christian Dennings, a good friend of mine and my brother's for many years, caught my stare and we held eye contact for a second or two.

He knew what was going on. It was all over his face.

"Edward."

I turned my attention back to my superior again. "I'm done, Cap."

"It doesn't have to be like this, ya know, nobody here…"

"I'm done," I reiterated for him, a little harsher than I probably should have.

He just didn't get it. But after a few more hope filled moments later on his part, finally, he resigned to a frustrated acceptance. "Okay. Let's get your gun and badge turned in and I'll start the paperwork."

He’s done, has nothing left to give, wants nothing more than to forget, to get away. So that’s what he does.

A map and dart decide his destiny, one that brings him to the very town Miss Isabella Swan lives.

Their chemistry from the start knocks your socks off; their banter with each other will make you laugh and smile, hurting your cheeks.

I decided I'd better not waste any more time thinking, so I swung the wood down at his head, but he caught it mid strike, nearly looking like he was about to laugh at me if he hadn't been so damned irritated.

I pulled at the two-by-four, trying to get it out of his grasp to take another swipe at him but he held on tightly.

Then the silence between us was broken.

"Can I help you?" he growled. "I mean, other than giving you a head to swing at?"

"Can you help me?" I pulled again, to no avail. "You're the one on private property!"

"Yeah, I know… mine."

"Yours? HA! Liar! This boat house happens to belong to a very good friend of mine." I was still pulling at the two-by-four and he was still scowling at me. Unamused.

But then, neither was I.

"A good friend of yours, huh?"

Why. Wouldn't. He. Let. Go!

"Yes, Emmett McCarty, as a matter of..." I pulled at the damn board again. "Fact, and I've already called the police, by the way."

"Good," he told me, letting go of the wood finally. But as he was letting go, I was giving it my all and when his hand loosened from the thing, I flew backwards, into the chilly, muddy river's swampy waters next to the dock with a scream.

It was freezing and when I finally found my bearings, coming up for air, there was the jerk, standing at the edge of the platform that doubled as a deck to the house, staring down at me with this… half snide arrogant look that I wanted to smack right off of his smug face. "Maybe they can arrest you on the spot for, I dunno... invasion of privacy? Assault?" he told me, nodding out at the river sideways. "Unless you'd like to get a head start."

As well as all this, a desperate loneliness lingers in them both, two lost and wanting souls fighting against each other, not yet aware that they could be just what the other needs, whether looking for it or not.

Jo writes these characters with so much heart; so much quick wit and loveability that you can’t help but be immediately drawn in.

I can’t speak highly enough of this story. It’s so incredibly well written, drawing a number of emotions from you as you read. The plot is exciting and addicting, the UST already in full force, the regular updates making us the luckiest of readers.

Jo has a talent, one that we’re lucky enough to witness, to join in on and read and love.

If you’re not yet reading Blind Spot, find a quiet spot in your day, grab a cup of coffee or juice, and become immersed in this wonderful story, just like I have.

You won’t regret it, and the smile you’re left with after reading is just an added bonus.

Bella Swan: Kidnapper by Kambria Rain

Um. Hi. I don't really know how to say this, but I have your kids with me, and I was thinking maybe you would like them back. So yeah… call me. Twilight - Rated: M

Reviewed by: Kitkat

"You can't tell me what to do. You're not my mother!" the boy shouted at the woman defiantly.
When she raised her hand to hit him, I was over there before she could even blink. "You hit that kid, and I'll kick your ass."
"This is none of your business," she snapped back. "Ethan, get in the damn car. I'll deal with you when we get home." She started putting her bags in the trunk of her luxury car like I wasn't even there.
Something in me snapped. I shoved her hard, causing her to shriek and fall over in the trunk. Then I grabbed the little girl and took Ethan's hand. He was too busy looking over his shoulder in shock to watch where we were running as I pulled him along. I put them both in the back seat with Leo.
"Buckle in! Buckle in!" The banshee was getting up, and boy was she pissed. I locked the doors and took off.
When we were safely out of the parking lot, the reality of the situation crashed down on me. I had just kidnapped a couple of kids! I was either going to prison or the nut house. For a few minutes there was complete silence. The kids were obviously as shocked about this as I was.
"Hi. I'm Leonardo Swan, and I'm seven. That lady who kidnapped you is my mom, Bella." Leave it to Leo. "What's your name?"
"I'm Ethan Cullen. I'm seven too," the other boy replied. "And that's my little sister Sophie. She's three."
"Um Ethan," I started, not having a clue what to do. This was new territory. I had never kidnapped a child before. "Could you tell me who your parents are? I should probably contact them."

That seemed like a wise thing to do.

Um…yeah.  You think?

‘Bella Swan: Kidnapper’ is not a ‘how to’ guide.  What it is, is a fabulous tale of blossoming romance amidst chaos, crazy neighbors and three of the sweetest kids I’ve ever read.

Bella Swan is a mystery wrapped in an enigma all covered with awesomeness.  She is seriously the mom I wish I had.  It’s no wonder Ethan and Sophie Cullen seem to flock to her whenever possible.  They stow away in her truck to get away from a crazy Nanny and convince her to spring them from the babysitter’s house by using a hot police officer as a distraction.  She lets them use cupcake frosting as war paint, gets shot with a nail gun while building a tree house and her basement is a ball pit.

Seriously…

Can she adopt me?

While she feeds the kids desire for fun, she is also there as a much needed mother to them.  Her past is a mystery…What does she do for a living?  Who is Leo’s dad?  Does she really have a younger sister named Renesmee?

Watching the relationship between Bella and Edward grow is like seeing a flower bloom.  It happens slowly at first, but once those first few petals are open, it explodes with color and textures and scents.

"Edward." He slowly pulled it away and dropped it to the side. His lips met mine again before moving to my collarbone and finally my breasts. When his lips wrapped around my hardened nipple, I forgot what the hell I was going to say until I ran my hands across his still clothed back. "Get the hell out of those clothes."
He pulled back with a smirk. He was still a smug bastard. He pulled his shirt over his head and dropped it. I couldn't wait to have his chest pressed against mine. I almost groaned at how slow he was about unbuttoning his pants and pushing them to the ground. Finally he was touching me again, kissing me while I pressed my body flush against his. "Let me make love to you," he whispered.
I couldn't think of anything I wanted more. He hooked his fingers into the edge of my panties and began to pull them away. He started to push his boxers down, but I stopped him. I wanted to do that. I laid eyes on his erect member, and I'm pretty sure I whimpered. I hadn't had sex in eight years. I didn't know how he was going to fit that monster inside of me, but I was more than willing to let him try.
He kissed me softly as he pushed into me. I felt myself stretching around him. "Shit," I breathed. "Edward."
He moved slowly at first, kissing me again. I lifted my hips to meet his with every thrust. My breathing picked up as he started to quicken the pace. I brought my leg up and hooked it over his hip. "Bella," he said with moan.
I lost myself as he thrust into me over and over. I remember screaming his name before my body tightened around him, my release triggering his on. He collapsed on top of me, and I welcomed the weight. We lay there panting in silence until he rolled over to my side and pulled me against his chest. "What the hell is an aha moment and how soon can you have another one?"
"It'll have to be after lunch. I'm starving." I hadn't had anything to eat all day. Funny how I forgot about that earlier. When I hopped out of bed, I winced. "Son of a bitch." It didn't occur to me that I might be a little sore after an eight year break.
"Problems?" Edward smirked.
"Jackass," I grumbled.
He pulled on his boxers and helped me into his shirt before pulling me to him for a kiss.
We ordered Chinese and ate in the living room on the sofa. There was no after sex awkwardness. He tried to steal some of my food as always, so I was forced to poke him my little plastic fork. I sucked at using chopsticks. I didn't know what would happen in the future, but I did know one thing. If we ever got married, that man was never sleeping on the couch.

Each chapter is a new discovery about Bella’s past and the 22 chapters just fly by.  Written way back in ’09 this story is still at the top of my ‘must read’ list.  Funny and sexy and sweet…You won’t be disappointed if you drop your current updates and read this oldie.

Bella once told a lie. A lie that cost her everything she ever wanted. 10yrs later, she returns to her hometown to an ailing father, an angry ex-best friend, and the man from whom she has kept a secret that threatens to unravel her existence. AH OOC M Twilight - Rated: M

One screen full, not even a scroll and I fell into “Secrets and Lies”. Hard.I couldn’t look away, ignored all responsibilities and social networks, and fought the clock as I tried to piece together the truth. Truths. Rather than a straight forward here-you-go narrative we are left to put it all together. And I loved it. The mystery had me clicking next until there wasn’t any more.

We are dumped into Bella’s impromptu cross country trip to visit Charlie. Though they’ve maintained a steady relationship over the last decade since moving away from Forks, it has been strictly by phone. Until now.

Charlie has asked her to come home. Insisted, really, and that she come alone. Her worst fears are confirmed. Charlie is sick and even though Forks is the last place she wants to be, the choice is immediate for Bella. She will move back and care for her long estranged father.

Glimpses at what Bella has been hiding from for the last years and her infamy linger. All we know at the opening is that it was big, the kind of thing that would turn her into the town cliché, and cause her to never want to look back. But again, we have to work to understand the storm that she has been running from.

And after a little night emergency call to the Dr. Carlisle Cullen it is pretty clear how her return will be received.

He steps past me out onto the porch. I thank him again, but before I get the chance to say goodbye he turns. His eyes are hard and for the first time tonight, I see the contempt in them.

"When you come back you should probably expect a visit from Alice."

And with that he turns and walks away.

His words surprise me. My last conversation with Alice ended with her telling me she didn't want to have anything to do with me ever again. She'd been trembling with the force of her hatred for me. I'd never seen Alice like that, and I didn't relish the thought of witnessing it again.

I watch the tail-lights on Carlisle's car disappear out of sight and lean heavily on the door after I close it. Being hated by the Cullens is not the worst thing in my life right now. I take the stairs two at a time to check on Charlie.

True, technically… but one of the secret Bella’s been keeping is a big one. After falling in love with her best friend’s older and very married brother, Bella does the unthinkable. She consummates that love and unknowingly they conceive a child.

We are left floundering, struggling to make heads or tails out of the mess of lies, omissions, and denial of the highest form. What we do know is that Bella has always put their son first, and is continuing to do so as she makes the most of the time she has left with Charlie. And the reunion of this could’ve been family is plagued with mistrust and deep seeded pain.

His hands loosen, and I feel one finger trace my jaw line. "You only lied about one thing, didn't you?"

I swallow hard, unable to speak. The feel of him touching me, the way he is looking at me as if he can see right into my soul... is all too familiar. I feel like I'm eighteen again, and he is the centre of my universe. All the feelings I've long suppressed come crashing to the fore.

My mouth dries as I feel the pain again, more keenly than I've felt it in years. Conversely, the desire is there too, and my palms sweat with the need to touch him. It would be so easy to just reach out to him.

"You should've told me what was going on." I choke out.

"I know," he whispers.

I hate the tears that form in my eyes. "I had no one to turn to," I whimper, hating myself for it.

When his warm palm cups my cheek, my eyes flutter closed as his thumb brushes gently beneath my eye, gathering the moisture there and brushing it away. "I'm sorry," he murmurs.

Two words I would have killed to hear ten years ago. Two words that I owe him too. Yet, even though they sound sincere, they are not enough to make it right again.

The love, the want, the need are all there. So all-encompassing that it is difficult to breath because of it at times. But more crippling than this is the fear. Bella has trusted and burned before. She doesn’t know if she could survive it again, and she certainly will not put their son at risk for the same kind of rejection that tore her apart.

Slowly, steadily, new bonds are forged and trust is earned. And when the time is right, that love reemerges from its hibernation.

"You are the most beautiful woman I've ever seen, Bella," he whispers thickly, looking down at my body.

He cups his hands beneath my breasts, eliciting a sharp moan from me when he sweeps his thumbs firmly over my nipples. He glances up briefly before dipping his head and capturing my nipple in his mouth. His tongue circles hotly and the soft suction has me moaning again. My fingers rise to his hair as I keep my eyes trained on his tongue and lips feasting on my breasts.

My hands trail lower, tracing the hard planes of muscles beneath the skin on his back. He releases my breast with a wet pop and turns his face up to mine seeking my lips.

I want you baby," he murmurs against my mouth.

Gripped with need, I push him onto his back and settle over him, planting my knees at either side of his hips. He reaches up and massages my breasts firmly as his eyes lock with mine. I stare down to see everything I've ever wanted from him reflected in his eyes, he barely blinks and his lids lower as his passion flares. "Kiss me," he demands.

I thrust my tongue into his mouth, and he slips one hand down my body and between my legs. We groan simultaneously when he feels how wet I am already. Forcing my hungry lips away from his mouth, I reach out and yank open his drawer – not caring if I'm taking liberties – and feel around until my fingers locate the condom box. I tip the contents onto the bed and when my teeth rip the foil he plunges two fingers deep inside me.

Jesus," I gasp. "I almost bit through the condom." My words are slightly garbled as his fingers stroke slowly up and down my inner walls, curling at just the right spot.

Ugh, I know I’m not doing this story justice, because it is just so hard to explain the three main storylines properly. This isn’t just the story of a daughter trying to make up for lost time. It is more than just the story of a mother wanting to protect her son. And it is definitely more than just a one-time illicit affair and its ramifications. “Secrets and Lies” is all three and so much more. Open it up, give it a read, and I know you will want to walk along side Bella as she struggles to correct the misunderstandings.

Life is never perfect, the cracks always appear. "My Polaroid would show the face of a girl who has forgotten how to truly smile." Even the strongest of dreams can fail to become enough.
Twilight - Rated: M

 Review by: Troublefollows Edward

When I read There is a Light (one of the Fics of the Month here on TLS), I thought there would never be another story that would move me as much as that one. One that could stir my emotions just so.

I was wrong.

Cracks in the Pavement by Vampshavelaws is that story. CitP is one of the best stories I have ever read and it is only nine chapters in. I am a VERY picky reader and I don't read very much because it has to be good for me to give up my time. I can honestly say that I have never had such a physical reaction to a story before. I can actually feel my chest tighten and my shoulders tense as I read. If you are a wussperv, this story may not be for you. Angst is high in this one.

Vampshavelaws has created an Edward and Bella who are at a very painful crossroads in their marriage. We readers have no idea what has brought them to this terrible place, and sometimes I get the feeling neither do they. What we do know is that they once were very much in love. Vampshavelaws sends us back in time every chapter, giving us glimpses of what the old Bella and Edward were like. They met in high school when they were fifteen. These two were young and madly in love. Her memories are certainly bittersweet.

"Saturday mornings used to be spent in the best of ways; skin against skin as he moved above me or under me with reverent curses and parted lips. I'd pull him to me so close, fingertips pressed into his back as I met him again and again with eager hips and urgent pleas of, 'don't stop' and repeats of, 'I love you'.

The way he'd gaze down at me with heated expressions—mixed with love and longing—would leave me all the more breathless and enraptured, my heart so full I'd been sure it would burst.

I would plead with silent words as trembles shook my body inside and out, clinging to him as he did the same. We'd lie together in the middle of the bed, our faces just far enough apart to be able to see the other clearly. My fingers would explore his jaw as his hand rested against my heart, feeling just what he did to me.

His expression would let me know he was feeling it just as much, leaving wonder behind in its wake."

I love this Edward a little bit more every time she lets us in on their happier days. She also has written THE BEST marriage proposal ever. EVER. I want to marry this marriage proposal. I’m serious.

But the happy times didn’t last. Bella often looks back and questions why she led with her heart and not her head.

“We married at nineteen without telling anyone. We were young and naïve – stupid. But I was in love…so, so in love. My chest had been full with adoration and impatience to start something that perhaps we weren’t ready for. And now, six years later, I know we weren’t.”

The story begins with Bella and Edward attending a party at Edward’s parents’ home around Christmas time. Immediately we are made aware of how isolated and alone Bella feels even in a room full of people. Vampshavelaws’ writing is so beautiful, it is easy to get swept away by the imagery.

“Our communication has become lost, buried beneath the sand or trapped in that bottle floating out to sea. The longer we leave things unsaid, the further it wanders out of our sight until we can no longer spot the early morning light bounce off the glass as it drifts and drifts and drifts.”

Gah! You can see how Bella feels completely helpless as she watches her marriage dissolve slowly, unravel in her hands. It’s easy to want to blame Edward for what is going on in the present, but I think that’s because we are only in Bella’s head. Bella admits she doesn’t say much out loud. She believes that because she feels so much love for him that he knows that’s how she feels, but in the flashbacks, Vampshavelaws lets us know he really does have a hard time knowing what she’s thinking. I think Edward is hurting just as much as Bella and I can’t wait to find out what got them to this point.

Bella is going to make you mad, too. She feels defeated and tries to stand up for herself the only way she knows how. The way Vampshavelaws describes her pain after Bella makes a huge decision makes my heart hurt.

“Dawn breaks, but the electrifying colours don't last. Ashen skies in heavy slate loom through glass; oyster clouds with a sombre undertone, soot choking the heavens. A chiffon sheer coats the windows, flecks of falling tears, morphing into a river of despair... and I follow it. I let myself be carried away—I don't fight it. I float, waiting, cold, but nothing changes.

I sit and hate myself. I sit and hate him. I sit and wonder if I've made a mistake.
I stand and quickly stop myself from making an even bigger one as I reach for my keys.

It hurts being here without him, my insides torn to shreds; confetti in the shape of paper hearts ripped in two. But there's no celebration—no head tilted to the sky with smiles that blind, no ears full with the sound of cheers.

Nothing hits my cheeks or gets stuck in my hair. There's no hand cupped with mine, pulling me forward through a crowd. It's just hit after hit to pumping red muscle. And all I want to do is scream.

I'm all cried out, clear tracks of once tears coating my cheeks, now as dry as the desert, a writhing pathway of hopes dashed.”

The raw emotion of this story will choke you up every chapter. I wait patiently for the next installment. Always wanting more, more, more. Why did this happen to them? Why aren't they both fighting harder? Why won't they talk to one another? Can't he see her pain? Why can't she see his? When are they going to figure each other out and make this right? So many questions. Warning - this is not a once a week updater. I’m happy to let her take her time between updates because I know she’s creating something worthy of my time and my heartache.

Go read Cracks in the Pavement and tell her Trouble sent you. I promise you she will not disappoint. She might put some cracks in your heart but she will never fail to deliver something amazing.

How to Paint a House by Maggie's Gutter - rec'd by Monica NP

Bella Swan is a naive fifteen year old, set to spend another kiss-less summer alone. Edward is new to town, and doesn't know a soul. Watch an unlikely friendship blossom over the simple task of painting a house. But for these two, nothing is simple. Twilight - Rated: M

Review by LaMomo

Do we all remember how it feels like, to be fifteen, going on sixteen, and to be crushing on a guy to the point you're in love, and he's all you see, and yet you have absolutely NO CLUE how to go about it?
There are no clear lines. There are no codes of conduct. Everything is too much. Or too little. Or too soon. Or too late. There is only uncertainty and expectation. There is the thrill of anticipation and agonies of doubt and rejection.
There is the unspeakable limbo of "friendship".
And slowly, you change, things change, he changes…and one day, things fall into place for a brief second. You both become "more" to each other.
And cue a second slew of agony, harrowing doubts, second-guessing and inadequacy in spades.

Still..he is your whole world. You only think and see in absolutes. Meeting him is the best thing that has happened to you. He's the most beautiful, the bravest, the kindest guy you ever met. And he is. Because young love only factors in the absolutes, where feelings are concerned. One moment is misery, the other is bliss.

This is what happens in Maggie's Gutter incredibly sweet and beautifully written tale, How To Paint A House. The usual suspects live in Forks. Charlie Swan wants his house repainted over summer break but he gets his leg broken and is confined indoors for a few weeks. The new addition in town, the doctor's son, Edward Cullen, is recruited for the job. And he shares the task with Charlie's daughter Bella.
Bella is a shy, bookish, socially reclusive teenager on the verge of her 16th birthday, and she's losing her usual footing because her closest friend Angela is going over to the Skank Side.
Edward puts her to work, and lends an ear to her musings. She does the same, because the guy is, after all, the new kid in town, and has no one to talk to. And he has baggage.

Follow these two very closely as they explore their friendship, their companionship, and whatever else is coming their way. Their connection will tug at your heartstrings every single time, and nothing will sound contrived, silly, or overdone. Bella is a faithful portrayal of a 15 year-old girl in love for the first time, and Edward is an adorable tangle of boyish charm going on to a more manly appearance (which doesn't help Bella's plight any), of doubts, guilt over his reckless past, and insecurity about his future.

This is a heartfelt, wonderfully written, evenly paced and emotionally intense journey. It will suck you in, like current while you're going rafting on a nearby river, on a long, hot, end-of-summer day…..

New in the town of Forks and eager to please her boss at the university, Bella auditions for a local production of Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing". Her co-star is a handsome but confusing local doctor. Is it curtains-up on love? AU/AH Canon pairing Twilight - Rated: M

Review by OneBraveLamb

The Port Angeles Players is a wonderfully written story by WriteOnTime. It’s witty, charming and sucks the reader in almost instantaneously. At least it did for me.

The story starts off with Bella making a big move with her best friend Alice after a terrible break-up. Bella has been put through the ringer by a younger man and her confidence is severely lacking. Jacob, the younger man in question, was hot and heavy with Bella for a while before abruptly turning on the deep freeze and ignoring Bella completely. Bella ends up feeling like she’s not good enough and is afraid of being hurt again when another man realizes that she’s not worth his time.

So after a while of Bella’s moping and with much persuasion, Alice convinces her that she needs a fresh start and the girls pack up and move to Alice’s home state of Washington. Bella quickly finds a job at a local university where she meets Jasper. They strike up a friendship due to Jasper’s gentlemanly southern manners and laidback personality and things seem to be going well. After dinner with Alice’s mother one evening and agreeing to take leftovers to her father, hilarious hijinks ensue when Bella spots Edward for the first time and nearly gives herself whiplash.

Edward doesn’t hurt himself or anything, but he definitely notices Bella too. But like Bella, Edward is leery of relationships. Only, he’s the jackass that treated his previous girlfriend callously. Before you write him off, you must understand that it wasn’t his intention. With his friend Eric’s help, Edward had no problem with finding a flavor of the week and the women he was with weren’t really interested in commitment either. Edward even started imagining the ladies as famous women and played his role accordingly.

But when Eric decided to settle down with Lauren, Edward panicked. He was accustomed to his flavor of the week sexcapades and if Eric wasn’t going to be there to toss women in his direction, he’d be sorely lacking in that department. When Lauren offered to set Edward up with her friend Tanya, he jumped at the chance. He played his role of Tom Hanks to Tanya’s Darryl Hannah perfectly. So perfectly that Tanya actually fell for him. And by him, I mean Tom Hanks. After asking Tanya to move in, since that was what Eric had done with Lauren, Edward realized that he may have gotten himself into a bit of a mess.

After a pretty horrendous break-up that Edward admits was all his fault, he packed up and moved from Chicago to Washington vowing to become ‘a real boy’ and leave his playboy and asshole ways behind him.

Add in a comical twist of fate, that has Bella auditioning for a production ‘Much Ado about Nothing’ and being offered the role of Beatrice alongside Edward as Benedick, while Edward is struggling to be real and worthy of a person like Bella and you have a cute and funny glimpse into the minds of our favorite couple as they traverse the path of getting to know one another, figuring out how to not only trust each other -but how to trust themselves and ultimately falling in love.

The Port Angeles Players is complete and one of my go to fics if I’ve had a bad day and need a little cheering up. So go on now, read it and fall in love with this story like I did. You won’t regret it.

Thief of Hearts by PattyRose - rec'd by Kitty

FBI Agent Edward Cullen knows the assignment: Go undercover & infiltrate the ring. Bring them down. He doesn't bargain on the mysterious thief who turns the case upside down, or on the mortal danger protecting her will put them both in. E&B OOC  Twilight - Rated: M

Review by Kitty Vuitton

Thief of Hearts by Pattyrose is an action/suspense type story with a romantic twist that has me on the edge of my seat in anticipation of what will happen next. The first chapter is a prologue set in the future and it captivated my attention with the first paragraph. I am instantly pulled into plotline, wondering what the hell has is going on with Edward and what has happened to Bella that makes him so scared that she may not survive.

When I pull my hand away from my head it's coated with bright red blood; slippery and warm. For about five seconds I stare blankly at it before wiping my hand off on my pants and transferring my weapon to my other hand. My head is pounding; I've got a thousand heavy jackhammers digging into my brain insistently. Still, I force myself to keep going. I'm dazed and unsteady on my feet. My vision blurs. I drip blood as I go. But I don't stop. I'll drag myself along on my stomach, slide and slither like a goddamned snake if I have to until I find him. He can't be allowed to leave this place alive. Not if she's to survive.
And she will survive.

The prologue also provides with the fact that Edward is an undercover FBI agent posing as Dr. Anthony Masen. As he is fighting for his life with an unknown assailant, he continues to think about Bella and how he must keep her safe, even if it means losing his life to do so.

No, he never knew her the way I did. No one has ever known her the way I have.
I promised her I'd keep her safe.
"For you Bella," I murmur as I hold the gun with both hands and cock the trigger. "Always for you."
Those are my final thoughts; my final words; just as the gun gets kicked out of my hands…

The next chapter moves us back to the past as we start from the beginning of this adventure. We learn that Edward is going undercover to get to the bottom of what Dr. James Penn and his team are doing. It seems they are testing non-FDA approved drugs on terminally ill patients without letting them know and in the process, draining the patients’ bank accounts as well for their own personal gain. Edward’s job is to become Dr. James’s right hand man, so he can expose and eventually shut down this operation. Bella is a snarky thief who has a run in with Edward while both are breaking into the same hotel room. I love this Bella because she has an attitude and is not afraid to put Edward in his place.

She smirks. The amusement's back. She pretends to look at a non-existent watch on her wrist.

"Doc, doc, doc," – the fine hairs on my arms stand on end at the casual way she addresses me, the way her brown eyes take me in as if they've looked into mine a thousand times before – "while I'd love to stick around and play shrink while you confess all your life's transgressions, I really do have to get out of here. You see, your soon-to-be fuck buddy Kate will be back soon, and while all you have to do to distract her is whip out your bulging manhood and show her that lovely six-pack you've got going on there," – she waves an arm towards my stomach – "I'm afraid I don't have a cock, and my presence in this room would be a bit harder to explain away." She taps her foot lightly on the carpet, as if I'm keeping her from some pressing engagement.

"So if you'll excuse me," she says. Her eyes move to the door and she makes to move past me.

I block her way and without thinking, as I've lacked to do throughout this entire exchange, my hand shoots out to stop her, because there's not a chance in hell I'm letting her out of my sight yet. I grab her just below the elbow and wrap my fingers around her arm.
A thousand sparks flow through my hand, up my arm and into the rest of my body. I look down to where I've touched her to see if I've been shocked by a live-wire. I shudder, and I can swear I feel her do the same. My eyes open wide and I trail them back up to hers, sure I'll see the same shock in them that I'm feeling now. Sure enough, she looks beyond shocked.

She's pissed off.

Of course, Bella runs off after their brief encounter, leaving Edward to wonder who she is exactly, and why does he have this pull to be close to her again. With sexual tension this high, I cannot wait to see just how hot the lemons turn out. The story is only 5 chapters in so far, and Pattyrose is setting up the plotline beautifully, with many twists and turns along the way. I know that I have tried coming up with a few theories on what may happen, and so far each one has failed once a new update has been posted. Thief of Hearts changes POV’s often as well, to provide the readers with a look inside each of the characters minds. I highly recommend starting this story soon as it’s going to be a great ride.

Then he walked out of that bathroom shirtless and with his pants unbuttoned. Out of all the people in that fucking hotel that could've walked in on me, it had to be a half-naked Dr. Masen. I hadn't known whether to run away or help him finish taking the pants off. So I'd just remained frozen to my spot.

And dropped the fucking necklace.

I close my eyes and groan quietly. Even three days later the fact that I didn't get the bitch's necklace still irks me no end. None of the other pieces make up for having lost that one. Well, except for maybe…
I turn and stare emptily at the backs of the first class passengers, remembering the feel of Dr. Masen's mouth on mine. A warm tingle goes up my spine.

I'm convinced he hypnotized me with those unbelievably green eyes of his. They must be learning some voodoo on top of everything else in that medical team. That's the only explanation for why I'm dreaming about him day and night for the past few days.

I still don't know where I found the strength to pull away from that kiss.
That goddamned kiss. What the fuck was I thinking? I wasn't thinking, that was the problem.

Let’s face it we all love a good lemon. We want them hot, tangy, and often. We want our B&E going at it often and with vigor, as soon as we can get it. And then we want more lemons in each succeeding chapter.
I love reading lemons just like the rest of you, but nothing can spoil a good lemon faster for me than being interrupted mid, ahem, squeeze. Imagine the frustration the characters must feel when it’s happening to them every time they attempt to get down and dirty in a story.
This is what is happening to Edward and Bella when we first meet them in WMMD. And sadly, keeps happening.
The phone rings again and he can't help curse out another, "Fucking, Renee." But in his state it comes out breathy, like it would be a pleasure to fuck his...
"Stop...saying...that," gasps the voice under the pillow. He uncovers a smile under the ponytail stuck to her cheek with sweat. He kisses the side of her mouth.
A few more passes, he thinks.
There's stirring in his belly, and there's stirring from the other side of the baby monitor.
Oh no. Not now.
"The baby," she says, rising.
Don't get up, my honeypot. Don't...
"Edward, the baby's waking up."
A few more grunts; his eyes are closed. When he was younger, he'd have been done and in the other room with the baby by now, but he's older, he found a gray hair on his chest the other day telling him so. He wants to blame work, but maybe he's simply getting old.
Edward," she pushes her ass up, forcing him to lift on his forearms.
Ass up, just like on his birthday.
But it's too late, she's pushed him off completely, mid-coitus, and it hurts like a son of a bitch.
If you’re looking for a blend of intrigue, humor, real life, and a dash of mystery, WMDD is right up your alley. It’s sexy and dangerous, but frustrating and hilarious at the same time
Denverpopcorn has created a lovely collection of vignettes of our favorite couple, giving us a taste of their life in each chapter. She has an incredible gift with words, and uses it brilliantly in this story. Weaving together the daily life of a dad devoted to his wife and kids, along with the dangerous, thrilling life of a Navy SEAL. The kicker is Edward’s life as a deadly assassin is a total secret from his family. They think he is a salesman! I can just picture Edward ready to explode with piss and vinegar when other men try to ‘show him up’ with incredible work stories and he has to remain passive and talk about insurance.
Edward even struggles to remember this himself at times when he’s feeling less assassin-like and more like a bumbling father.
"You don't take shit from anyone. You're classified, you're a Navy Seal, a top-secret agent. You've shot to kill. And you've taken a shot at a lot of assholes."
For the next five minutes he keeps up the inner-rally, reminding himself that he's not just an insurance salesman. He is an undercover agent that his wife knows nothing about. He's living two lives, both honorable, both noteworthy.
When he isn't asked to pick paint chips, that is.
He hangs his head. "Sometimes, I wish I could just tell her."
For what? How would that change anything?
The history of the couple is touched on but you understand that what Denverpopcorn is trying to do here isn’t give an elaborate story filled with angst and drama but a glance at life, and all that goes with it. She hasn’t ignored building mystery (she is a master at that, after all) but we aren’t focused on the who, what, where, and why. Instead, we are much more interested in seeing if this hot, older Edward is ever going to get to finish his lemon treat with his wife.
Personally, I can’t wait to see it happen. Or almost happen again.
Happy Reading,
