On this first weekend of October, we are proud to showcase our very own multi-talented TLS admin, LayAtHomeMom! She’s given us some of our favorite fics like The Freshmen, Beneath the Branches, Kush, Burning Saints, and Girl Code. Once again, she’s giving us something a little different and we can’t wait to see where she takes us with this new fic!

Sin and Virtue
by
 LayAtHomeMom

Summary: “Even angels have their demons.”

After months of writer’s block, a lack of motivation, and an astounding aptitude for procrastination, I decided I had to come at this writing thing a little differently.

It began with a prompt and a simple question.

What if?

What if two former lovers ran into each other unexpectedly?

What if they were both angels?

What if one of them is now fallen?

What if they struck up a conversation about whose side they took in the great battle?

What if they still yearned for each other regardless of their opposition?

I jotted down my thoughts on a conversation between an angel from the Virtue choir and a fallen Dominion angel. The idea slowly formed in my head, the points and counterpoints of the faithful and the fallen. And then I wondered – what if they made a wager?

What would they wager on? A soul? Or a sin? And what would they wager for? Does the fallen Dominion angel wager for forgiveness? Or does the Virtue angel wager for the fallen’s repentance?

I called up my pal, Carrie ZM, to tell her the story idea. As expected, I got a pearl clutch and an ‘oh my’ which might as well be a blessing from her lips to my ears.

Mercifully, the words came quickly. Almost as fast as Carrie ZM hightailed it to Saint Paul’s Church to replenish her Holy Water stash.

So, if you’re down for a little tryst among the angels, a dash of blasphemy, a leap of faith, and a heaping helping of sin – this short little fic might be for you.

~Excerpt from Chapter 1~

His lips curl up into a smile so wide it looks almost sinister, and he brushes my cheek with his knuckles. “Do you ever think about us, Virtue?” His thumb traces my bottom lip. “When I was yours and you were mine?”

All of the time.

Pressing his forehead to mine, he slides his hands gently around my throat. “I used to make you sing like a Seraphim.”

My eyes fall closed as moments from our time together flicker behind my lids. Our mouths and bodies and wings entwined. Against the gates. In the garden. On the battlefield.

“Holy, holy, holy,” he sings slow, deepening his voice, “is God almighty.”

Heat surges through my mortal shell as desire and want flood every inch of this earthly form. “Yes,” I breathe. “I remember.”

“Look at me, Bella.” I open my eyes and see the fiery longing in his. “I’d give anything to feel that again.”.

The Freshmen
by LayAtHomeMom

Summary: "It's something I live with every single day."

Quarantine has been … interesting.

It’s given me time. Lots of time.

But very little motivation.

Until one night, I curled up on my couch and fell asleep to the dulcet voice of the creepy host of Unsolved Mysteries. The next morning, I woke up with an entire storyline which never, ever happens. Usually I see a scene and build around it, but this was like a gift-wrapped box with a pretty red bow left on my doorstep.

Naturally, I called Carrie ZM immediately and told her the idea. There were several beats of silence, followed by the faint sound of her spritzing herself with some holy water she keeps around her house in the event of phone calls such as these.

I was prepared to go back to the drawing board when she finally spoke. “Oh my,” she said.

And that was all the incentive I needed.

The Freshmen is like the hunch punch at a college party. A little bit of everything sprinkled in. There’s romance with a dash of smut, a splash of mystery, a pinch of suspense, and a heaping helping of what the fuck.

And since a lot of us are still in this quarantine boat together, who couldn’t use a drink?

TEASER FROM THE FRESHMEN CHAPTER 1

“Middlebury, Vermont,” The Investigation Files show’s host, Aro Volturi, says over a few eerie piano chords while images of my old college stomping grounds fill the screen. “A sleepy town nestled along the cascading falls of Otter Creek. Picture perfect with its stately brick and stone buildings dotting the gently sloping hills. Home to the safe, quiet campus of Middlebury College. But in the fall of 1998, the tranquil town was rocked by the disappearances of two freshmen coeds who never came home.”

Photographs of Bree and Angela fade in over the landscape shots before my picture materializes between them. The host’s voice drops dramatically. “And one who lived to tell the tale.”

Beneath the Branches
Summary: “The town of Forks is typically synonymous with boredom, not serial killers.”

_______________

Summertime is here and with that, a new story to share.

In the past, many of my fics have been rife with silliness, sarcasm, sex, and subtle shade. *Carrie ZM cringes at my alliteration*

But this summer, I’m going to try something a bit different. Because as much as I love the shade and the snark and sexy times, I’ve got another subject that starts with an ‘s’ that tickles my fancy.

Serial killers.

What does that say about me?

I’m really not sure. All I know is that my Netflix account and Google searches are probably on some kind of watch list and my appetite for true crime stories may be borderline unhealthy.

But I regret nothing.

I do, however, hope that readers out there may share my fondness for the subject.

So, what’s it about?

A little bit of this, a little bit of that, but basically, it’s a whodunit with an older FBI profiler, a young, feisty beauty with a brain, and a small town with a ritualistic serial killer on the loose. Sprinkle in some romance, a smidgen of smut, and a pinch of psycho and BAM – you’ve got Beneath the Branches.

So, if you fancy yourself a Forensic Files aficionado, or consider your super-sleuthing abilities right up there with Columbo, or you’ve just got a pair of David Caruso from CSI: Miami aviators laying around that you feel like dusting off – this might be a fun little summer fic for you.

Excerpt from Chapter 2

 “So, he’s not deviating from the process in that respect then,” I mutter to myself as I compare victim photos. “But he is evolving.”

“What do you mean?”

“He’s getting comfortable. More precise. With Jessica, his rope work was sloppy and I suppose that could be because he was nervous, but he bound her with a traditional round lashing.” Tapping a finger on a shot of Kate’s bindings and then Emily’s, I note the difference. “With the other two he went with a diagonal lashing.”

The chief inhales deeply through his nose. “Maybe he wanted to secure them better so they couldn’t give him the fight Jessi did.”

“That’s possible I suppose,” I tip my head back and forth considering it, “but I think what’s more concerning is that he’s confident enough to bind them with a more complex lashing.”

Taking a seat beside me, he folds his hands together on the table. “What exactly are we dealing with here?”

I turn to face him and see the worry and exhaustion etched in every line on his face.

“The phones are ringing off the hook. I’ve got journalists and law enforcement and every nib-nosed gossip in Forks asking me questions I can’t answer.” He swallows. “I need a profile.”

“You do, but there’s something more pressing we need to establish.”

“What’s that?”

I eye him seriously. “If he’s a local.”

This week, we are proud to showcase our very own multi-talented TLS Admin, LayAtHomeMom! If you have never had the pleasure of reading any of her writing, get prepared to be knocked off your feet. She’s written hits like In Your Room, Felt (who doesn’t LOVE a dirty talking Edward?!), Girl Code, and Kush. I highly recommend Every.Single.Thing. she has written and couldn’t be more excited about this NEW story she’s been telling me whispers of for quite some time.

Burning Saints
by LayAtHomeMom

Summary:  As this saint burns, so will burn my soul should I betray the oath of Omertà.
I enter alive and will have to leave dead.

Mobward.

I know, I know.

It’s all been done, and it’s been done incredibly well.

But what can I say?

I’m a sucker for a scotch-sipping, gun-toting, ball-breaking, Edward with a chip on his shoulder, and a fedora tilted just so. Throw in a Chicago accent and a sworn oath to the most ruthless crime syndicate of the era, and hot damn … you know I’m about that life.

Sweeten the deal by adding a young Bella with a backbone, a little ambition, and just enough of her daddy’s political clout in the Windy City to elevate a certain made man and his Outfit from wise guys to legitimate power players among the Gold Coast’s elite … you know I’m down for all of that too.

So, if Mobward is your jam, this might be a fic for you. Fair warning, though - this story is rated M for pearl-clutch-inducing situations such as violence, corruption, ball-busting, and gratuitous use of the word ‘fuck’ in all of its variations.

~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~
Excerpt from Chapter 2
“Can I get you boys anything?” A tall blonde wearing tassels and a smile asks, bending down so her cans are level with Em’s eyes.
“Yeah, sweetheart. How about you run and fetch us a bottle of scotch?”
She makes a show of pressing her tits together. “Anything else, Mr. Cullen?”
He hands her a bill and waves her off, briefly watching her ass sway before turning back to me. “So how was Havana, huh?”
“Eh, it was okay. I didn’t mind bein’ out there.” I light a smoke and lean back in my seat. “Why? You lookin’ to get into the game down there?”
Shaking his head, he mimics my position. “Nah, just curious how the past five years were for you.”
I take a deep pull. “It was fine, I guess. I laid low for a while, then your dad sent me to see Momo.”
“How was that?”
“I learned a lot. Momo had me doin’ collections and running a few floating craps and some high limit poker games. Met a few associates here and there. All in all, I can’t complain.”
Tassels brings the scotch and makes herself scarce again when Em stands abruptly. “Follow me.”
“Where we headed?”
“Somewhere without ears.”
He leads me to a roof access door and we climb the stairs until we’re four stories above Rush Street, looking out at the city.  Em unscrews the cap and tosses it over the side of the building before taking a huge swig. “There are big changes comin’ for us, Eddie.”
“Yeah?”
He points to the skyline. “All this is gonna be ours.”
I say nothing, letting him go on with the crazy talk.
“And it’s all because of you.” He comes towards me and grabs the back of my neck. “You ballsy motherfucker, you.” Pulling me close, he lowers his voice, “I know what you did.”
Kush
by LayAtHomeMom
Summary: “One hit will make you change your mind.”
~~~~~

On New Year’s Day 2015, Carrie ZM and I were on one of our typical morning phone calls where we bullshit about nothing in particular while throwing a little Pine-Sol in the sink so the house smells clean and our  husbands think we’ve been busting our humps and earning our keep. That morning, however, we got on the topic of New Year’s resolutions. We quickly decided that we’re not about that life, so instead of doing the whole new-year-new-me song and dance, we agreed we’d just spend the year doing dope shit.

Carrie went on to co-host two fantastic fandom contests and beta’d a few fabulous stories. And me? Well I did a little writing here and there in my free time. But mostly, I sat around and watched a bunch of documentaries … about dope.

Though admittedly, I’m no cannabis connoisseur or canna-sseur, if you will, I became fascinated with the medical marijuana industry nonetheless. With each hour I spent learning the ins and outs of the green scene, a plot bunny formed, and I wondered if I could take Edward Cullen from being our own personal brand of heroin and instead make him our very favorite strain of Kush.

This fic is pure fun. No drama. No angst. Just a quick summer read with a little Edward and Bella lovin’ and hopefully a few laughs. So roll up, fandom … and get high off this weed-infused romance.

“What hybrid strains do you grow here?”

“White Widow over here and that’s Girl Scout Cookie over there.” He  points to another area. “Back there we have Trainwreck and some Cannatonic.” We round the corner and stop in front of a large section of  purple flowering plants. “And this … is E.C. Kush.”

“Tell me about it.” My words come out in a whisper as I step closer to the plants. “What does it do?”

Clearing his throat, he moves to stand beside me. “Medicinally  speaking, it delivers swift pain relief without the sedative effects. No  couch-lock. Just a nice overall relaxation. Helps with anxiety too.”

“And recreationally?”

“It’s a nice balance of uplifting buzz and relaxing high.”

“Gets you loose as a goose, huh?”

He tilts his head back and forth. “Yeah, you could say that.”

“Isn’t that what a good strain is supposed to do?”

“It all depends on what you’re looking for. A good strain can leave you  feeling euphoric. Lower your inhibitions. Heighten your senses.” My fingertips trace the bright purple hairs of the leaf when I feel his lips at my ear. “But I can get you higher.”

Happy Valentines Day, Sweethearts!

Everyone here at TLS wants to wish all of you sweethearts out there a most wonderful Valentines Day and we've got some sweet reading suggestions for you if you're planning to stay in and keep warm on this lovely day of ours.

Every Valentines Day for the last few years, I think of that one amazing fic that we all know of and love... The Blessing and The Curse by TheBlackArrow. And not just because it's an all-time favorite for a large percentage of the fandom... but because TheBlackArrow also gave us the sweetest Valentine ever, when she gave us the story of Valentine Blythe and Samurai Ken.
Sadly, I just went searching for it with excitement to be able to link it here in this post for you but it's gone. I was so excited about a V-day re-read of Valentine Blythe too.
Heartbreak.
But Sally does have an author page on facebook that you can follow under the name Sally Thorne Author and there you can find out all the details on what she's up to and all the details on her first book... The Hating Game which will be available in August. I would read anything Sally writes, but after reading the synopsis for her next book, I'm really looking forward to it. Here's a snippet and a link to preorder:

Image result for the hating game by sally thorne
Lucy Hutton has always been certain that the nice girl can get the corner office. She’s charming and accommodating and prides herself on being loved by everyone at Bexley & Gamin. Everyone except for coldly efficient, impeccably attired, physically intimidating Joshua Templeman. And the feeling is mutual.
Trapped in a shared office together forty (ok, fifty or sixty) hours a week, they’ve become entrenched in an addictive, ridiculous never-ending game of one-upmanship. There’s the Staring Game. The Mirror Game. The HR Game. Lucy can’t let Joshua beat her at anything—especially when a huge new promotion goes up for the taking.
If Lucy wins this game, she’ll be Joshua’s boss. If she loses, she’ll resign. So why is she suddenly having steamy dreams about Joshua, and dressing for work like she’s got a hot date? After a perfectly innocent elevator ride ends with an earth shattering kiss, Lucy starts to wonder whether she’s got Joshua Templeman all wrong.
 Maybe Lucy Hutton doesn’t hate Joshua Templeman. And maybe, he doesn’t hate her either. Or maybe this is just another game.

But since that doesn't come out until August, today is the perfect day for a cuddly first time read or a re-read of  my personal choice for a V-day fic rec: The Blessing and The Curse. Unless you've have been hiding under a rock, or just never gave TB&TC the time of day, please go and read it now and live-text us your thoughts in the comments section of this post. I would love to feel all the feels vicariously through you today. I'll link you below. And I might even be doing a re-read myself.

The Blessing and The Curse by TheBlackArrow

By pretending she is falling for Edward, Bella is fulfilling Esme's dying wish. But sexy, possessive Edward can read her mind. Will she ever get into his? Can Bella forget the pain of her teenage years, and can she resist his relentless seduction? AH.

I've also got a published book rec, and it's another great read from one of our very own, we used to call Khar, but we now refer to her as J.M. Darhower:

By Any Other Name by JM Darhower

A deadly rivalry.
Two families at war.
Nobody is safe, not even the innocent.
Especially the innocent.
Blood will be spilled.

Genevieve "Genna" Galante knows a thing or two about causing trouble. After all, it's engrained in her DNA. As the only daughter of Primo Galante, notorious boss of the Galante crime family, her life is dictated by a certain set of rules… rules Genna was never very good at following.

Matteo "Matty" Barsanti never wanted anything to do with the family business, but as the first-born Barsanti son, certain things are expected of him. It's his duty, according to his father, to help take down the enemy... even if that enemy means something to him.

A chance encounter on an elevator changes the course of lives, causing the biggest trouble of Genna's young life. The only good Barsanti is a dead Barsanti. She's heard it said time and time again. So what happens when she falls in love with one of them?

The story of star-crossed lovers caught in the middle of the biggest rivalry New York has ever seen, determined to make it… if only they can survive their parents' feud.

Guys, I'm telling you. If you loved Emancipation Proclamation, which is now Sempre, you have got to believe me when I say you will adore this book. And yes, it's a published book and yes it costs money but it's Valentine's Day, you deserve a great book on V-day and you're worth way more than three bucks. Do yourself a solid and buy it here for just $2.99. Trust me when I say it's worth more than that... it's so damn good. I mean, I read this book over a year ago and I'm still thinking about it, that's how good it is. You can check out the reviews on it if you don't believe me.

I can't talk published books without mentioning our very own Counselor, whom we now refer to as Diane Munier. I read Darnay Road for the first time a few weeks ago and it was the happiest seven hours I've had in a long time. Such a sweet, fun read. I highly recommend cuddling up to this one and smiling your ass off:

Starts out in summer of 1963. Sweet little ten-year-old Catholic school girl Georgia Christine meets eleven-year-old smoker with armpit hair who really does live on the wrong side of the tracks Easy. She and Abigail May are mystery solvers, The Darnay Spies, in their spare time, and Easy Caghan (E.C.) and his brother Cap will keep these two little ladies on their sleuthing toes. Darnay Road leads them into a future where their childish friendship blooms into love. Will the Vietnam War be the one challenge they can’t overcome?

I felt so satisfied after putting Darnay Road down, but I admit, it also made me ravenous for more of Diane's writing, so I immediately began a re-read of Finding My Thunder and my god, that book. I just can't think of any other book that has been as meaningful and poignant as that one. Which is no wonder as to why it won Honorable Mention Literary Fiction in the 2015 New York Book Festival.

The story takes place in the late sixties. Hilly Grunier has been in love with Danny Boyd since she was a kid telling scary stories on summer nights at the fire hydrant while Danny pulled close on his bike. But when Danny is thirteen, their friendship ends when he and his brother Sukey have a vicious fight over Hilly. Years pass, and Hilly carries a secret and growing love as she watches Danny rise athletically to the top of their school’s food chain. He even dates the prom queen and rumor says they are engaged. Now Danny has graduated and shows up in her dad’s shop looking for some temporary employment until the army picks him off for Vietnam. He’s thrown aside his college scholarship and the golden girl. He seems to be searching for something new before he leaves town. He seems to be searching for her. Hilly can’t let him go overseas without showing him how she feels. But once he’s gone, her own battle intensifies. It’s a long road to finding her thunder.

This fic-turned-book is everything... I cannot stress it enough.

That's all for my picks, but I've got a few more recs from the other admins for you below!

REVIEW: Girl Code by LayAtHomeMom

Some stories have such a big following that it’s hard to remember where you first heard about them because every-freaking-body you know is reading them.  They're the stories that are recognized by initials or stand-apart details and are immediately connected to an author's name. They get you talking, screaming, and swooning about fic, and often become the standard by which other stories are compared. These are those stories.

We've invited three guest reviewers to share their thoughts on some of our recent ‘we can’t stop talking about them’ favorites.

Banner by Lolypop82

Girl Code by LayAtHomeMom
Friends are forever, boys are whatever - unless it's Edward Cullen. Then the gloves come off.

Rochelle Allison~

So, I’d been hearing about Girl Code for a while before I actually read it. I wasn’t sure if I’d like it, based on comments I heard - I think I assumed it was more angsty than I was in the mood for. I mean, I love angst, but I have to be in the right mindset. Finally, though, after hearing my friends go on and on (and on) I felt left out and thought dammit I need to read this.

Well. Was I ever wrong. There is some angst...but it’s more like (for real, not contrived) teen drama. And more than drama, it’s FUNNY. There are moments that sting, but they’re almost always soothed by snark. Like, I sit here cackling in malicious glee at the antics and comments of the main characters. The writing is cuttingly clever, the dialog snappy and genuine.

Alec especially - I could be here all day quoting his gems. Last chapter alone had me in hysterics:

“Aww. That turn the other cheek bullshit is really adorable, Hannah Montana.”

“Get up girl, shit just got real,” he says, plopping down on my bed.Panicked, I sit up quickly. “Huh? Where?”His eyes get big, and he puts a finger under his nose. “Ugh, in your mouth. Go brush.”

Lol. I die.

Anyway, a friend of mine thinks that there are a lot of Alices in life/the fandom, and while that might be true to an extent, I think there’s a lot of *all* the characters. Every single one of us has been the gossiper, or the gossiped about - the perp, the victim, the bitch, the saint. We all get it, because we’ve been there. There was no social media when I was in high school (MySpace became a thing when I was in my twenties), but the dynamics were the same - and still are. I mean, the story even starts with moms gossiping in the beauty shop. Classic.

And that’s why this fic hits home. It is so spot on.

I don’t want to give too much of the plot away, because I want so very badly for you to read this. It’s not that long, and honestly, the plot moves so swiftly. Suffice to say our girl Bella falls for her BFF’s new step brother...who also happens to be another friend’s crush. What should she do?
Hence, “(the) Girl Code”.

Becca/GothicTemptress~

High school. Those two words often send shivers down the spines of many as memories of teenhood come flooding back. And while I have many happy memories of my teen years, there are a multitude of situations that I can do without remembering ever again. Those painful recollections are left submerged beneath the surface, drowned completely in the perfect world. Unfortunately for most of us, the imperfectness of buoyant reminders, lingering psychological turmoil, and fake-friend inspired disappointments trump our desires to forget, so they float to the surface when we read, see, hear, or feel something that we can relate to from those trying situations in our personal history.

That's why I'm so grateful that Girl Code, written by LayAtHomeMom, offers more depth than many teen stories I've read in the past. Lay so thoroughly builds up each developing situation with expressive fleshing out and a true attention to detail, her “teens” are entertaining, authentic, and relatable. Despite my previous hesitations to read All Human/Alternate Universe adolescent fics, Girl Code is written with capable maturity. Lay's snarky style lends an authentic tone to each chapter, making the reading experience free from the recollective influence of the bite of my own teenhood memories, and because she consistently uses her “stage direction” so thoroughly, it makes a huge difference in the reader's experience.

In chapter one, the descriptions of body language and non-verbal glances and movements in the beauty salon form the emotional flesh for the readers to establish what the characters are like, how they act, and the depth of their relationships. Then in chapter nine, when the readers find themselves back in the salon, it becomes apparent how brilliantly Lay has developed her skill of subtle guidance. The non-verbal cues revealed at the beginning of the story heighten the underlining drama and deeper layers of Bella's developing convictions as she tries to continue navigating the gray area of possible social suicide while still trying to abide by the unspoken girl code that many readers will no doubt remember from their own experiences. How Bella evaluates her mother's glances and fitful silences, the looks the characters exchange in the mirrors, the sighs, the avoidance of words and body movements so succinctly express what's unfolding – every scene and motivation are clear based on the stage set, with no annoying ambiguity to taint my enjoyment of what's happening in every chapter. That evolution of tricky, suffocating, and blossoming relationships forming and breaking as the chapters progress in Girl Code make it a fabulous read.

Lay's mature approach to the way that the characters relate to each other regardless of the ages, missteps, and decisions of the characters are softened by the inclusion of the adult character's perspectives too. This is something else that I have grown to truly appreciate in Girl Code. The scenes that take place in the salon are among my favorites for that reason. The adults, while gossipy and sometimes cutting, allow the reader to mentally partake in their open and occasional veiled discussions about emotional boundaries, bad choices, and how important friendships are. They also add a mature “voice” to the undercurrent of the plot, showing how challenging relationships can be at any age. It's like the adults are illustrating their own mature version (and sometimes judgment) of the “code,” and the reader senses those nuances so tangibly in this story, adding to the depth of the reading experience.

I love to hate the Alice in Girl Code, and I love to LOVE the Edward in this story. He's ballsy, plants and waters Bella's deep-seeded accession of doubtful friendships, motives, and manipulations. He's the impetus that makes her question why she is following the girl code when it goes against the fluttering-whispers of her heart. Will life-long relationships survive? Or perhaps the better question to ask is should they, given how self-centered and poisonous some of these catty adolescents are?  Teenhood ethics can be sketchy at best, the methods of navigation clumsy and off course. I can't wait to find out what that girl code means to the characters in this story, and how that ambiguous code will be followed...or not!

One thing I have always loved about Lay’s stories is the way she uses pop culture.  She gives you these relatable topics and cultural cues that suck you right into the story.

Girl Code – Don’t gossip.  Just call it like you see it.  #keepitreal

Her stories are always laugh-out-loud funny, with these fantastic lines that stick with you long after the chapter is over.

“Get up girl, shit just got real,” he says, plopping down on my bed.

Panicked, I sit up quickly.  “Huh?  Where?”

His eyes get big, and he puts a finger under his nose.  “Ugh, in your mouth.  Go brush.”

This story is set in high school, where the backhanded compliments and sugar-coated cut-downs flow freely.  Once again, Lay tosses together an interesting cast of characters:  Alice the queen bitch, Victoria the frenemy, Rose the BFF, and Alec the gay BFF.   Quite a bit of the story takes place at a beauty shop that is run by Esme and Renee.  If you know anything about beauty shops, you know that they are gossip central.  So, needless to say, there is never a dull moment.  Add in the drama of high school and finding new love, and you’ve got yourself a recipe for awesomeness.

Girl Code – Never cockblock a friend.  #dontbethatgirl

Edward happens to be the shiny new toy and Bella isn’t the only one who’s attracted to him.  So, how far will she go to get what she wants?  Where does the Girl Code end?

Girl Code – Never EVER flirt with the object of your friend’s affections.  #trifflin’

Bella soon figures out that keeping a secret is harder than she ever imagined.

My back hits the door just as his bag falls to the ground.  With his eyes on my lips, he leans down and palms my face.  We hesitate for only a split-second before our mouths collide.

His lips move over mine, kissing me roughly and groaning into my mouth as he presses his weight against me.  Our eyes lock for a moment when he sucks my tongue hard and drags his teeth over my bottom lip.  He holds it there like a hostage, a subtle reminder that he’s there and waiting in the balance.  I swipe my tongue over my lip, soothing the sting when he kisses down my neck, licking and nipping as he goes, leaving me a panting mess.

Outside the crowd roars and stomps in time with the building drumbeat.  The sound pounds in my ears, and my heart crashes against my ribs as his hands slip lower and lower down my body.  Gripping my leg, he lifts and hooks it around his waist.  He claims my mouth again, the desperation in the kiss making my lips ache.  Pulling away, he buries his face into my neck.

“Touch me,” I beg, reaching for his hand.

“Tell her,” he whispers hotly against my throat.

I open my eyes at his words, only to find him staring back at me.  He traces his thumb over my jaw before kissing me once more, long and slow.

“Tell her,” he repeats more firmly this time.  “Or I will.”

I nod as I watch him grab his bag and head out of the room, knocking twice on the wall before he goes.

Don’t think that just because this is a high school fic there isn’t any heat, because Lay definitely delivers the heat!  The chemistry between Edward and Bella is palpable.  He wants her, and she wants him, so what/who’s standing between them?

Girl Code – Little white lies become the big, ugly truth #friendtervention

In the modern age of social media, word travels fast.  One little press of a button and hundreds of people can know your business . . . and your secrets, whether you want them to or not.

“They’re killing your reputation 140 characters at a time.”

When you realize someone you thought was one of your best friends is a penny – two faced and worthless.

“Fuck that.”
